Well I'm having this problem with my sway bar, When the tires tuck in in the front the swaybar hits the wheel well and started to make a hole. Is there an easy way to turn what I already have into quick disconnects?:driving:

Can you post a picture of it? I'm having a hard time getting a clear image of it in my head.

if its doing what i think it is doing i am sure they just need shortened up (if there adjustable)

But a pic would help alot!!! ;)

They are not adjustable. Here is pics from both sides I'm thinking they're probably not put in the right way.

Yep there 2 long. The bar should be level at the end where the end connects

Mudderoy
06-01-2009, 04:17 PM
Ok now I understand. I'm not sure how that is happening. I'll get a picture of mine and post it here when I get home from work. It really looks like they are too long.

Mudderoy

From your pictures the driver's side of the track bar is a good 1.5" higher than the passenger side.

xjjeepthing
06-01-2009, 04:30 PM
Possible too. Maybe toolong and the bar could be bent

Dirt Dogg Rydas
06-01-2009, 04:36 PM
actually i put that side on a car ramp to move closer to give youguys a better view but they are same length and not bent. and come to think of it i did see another XJ with a
6" lift and i think they were shorter

I'm guessing you have the one's that come with the 6.5" lift.

Why don't you measure it from bolt hole to bolt hole and I'll do the same with mine.

Dirt Dogg Rydas
06-01-2009, 04:56 PM
10" center to center. How much of a difference do you think it would make if i took the swaybar out. I do have a small 5X8 flatbed and a small boat&trailer i plan to use this summer

Mudderoy
06-01-2009, 05:03 PM
I was thinking about suggesting that to you, at least until you can get the right size. (If that is the problem). Spanky "D" didn't run one, and he says his wife doesn't like it on her XJ.

If your towing I wouldnt. Get a shorter set or mod those

Dirt Dogg Rydas
06-01-2009, 05:09 PM
I'll probably have to get a shorter set do you think RC would replace them.

Mudderoy
06-01-2009, 06:25 PM
Nope I measured the passenger side, 10" bolt hole to bolt hole.

What's up with your coil spring isolator? it doesn't look too happy.

I think your sway links are too long. Can you get a picture of the entire sway bar link from the front so we can see everything?

Mudderoy
06-02-2009, 09:03 AM
Yes that picture and can you take one like my shot? I think the place where the coil spring rests up top is messed up. I think that's the spring isolator Mud was talking about.

Looking at the pictures you took and the picture I took they look the same with the exception I have that nice big area between the body and the top of the coil spring.

Hmm I wonder if mine is different because of the "Up Country" package. Anyone else have a picture of this area?

Dirt Dogg Rydas

Yeah! the passenger side coil isolator is messed up I'm planning on upgrading to 6" lift and replacing them then.

This is the driver side.

I just measured my links. 8" Center to center. I'm running Procomp extended links for 3" to 5" of lift

Dirt Dogg Rydas
06-02-2009, 03:37 PM
do you think i could just modify them to make them shorter and quick disconnect?

Mudderoy
06-02-2009, 03:50 PM
Send an e-mail, or call, Rough Country and ask them. I bet your problem is bump stops. When do these hit the wheel well? When you are off road?

Dirt Dogg Rydas
06-02-2009, 04:07 PM
when im offroadin' I called them yesterday and they said it was the only links they had for the XJ I didn't think about the bump stops

Yep, you need some hockey pucks in those springs then.

So to answer your original question, quick disconnects WILL solve that problem. :rotfl2:

I suspect you'll still need to bump stop it though but for the tires.

I'm a bit confused, maybe I just missed this throughout the thread... but is this happening when you're driving on the street or just on the trails?

Anyway, once you disconnect while you wheel, that won't happen anymore. You're swaybar shouldn't be going that high while street driving.

Also, the angle of the swaybar is a bit too steep. It should only be a few degrees above level.

It's pretty obvious now: sway bar links are too long and bumpstops are needed.

Get some pucks like Mudd said:

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e73/muddeprived/DSCF5194.jpg

And shorten those links about 2-3 inches. You can cut the links down the middle and then find some metal tubing that fits over the links tightly. Drill some holes for cotter pins and voila, disconnects.

Or you can check out some of these:

http://zoneoffroad.com/product-acc2?ki=67

Email them and ask them for the lengths of the links. You could find a link that's the right length from another application and use it. For instance the Tj links are 2" longer than XJ links so whatever it states for TJ, just add 2".

I'm gonna take out the sway bar until i need it and maybe if i do upgrade to 6" lift it wont be a problem.

kmanxj

JKS quicker discos here. Dont know the lenth but i remember from the directions that the bar runinng parallel to the unibody (what the link hooks to) should be 10 degrees above parallel with the ground.

Go over to Rough Country and look at their disconnects. Just like what you have except the bottom bolt is a slider, with a hole and a pin. There is a little bracket so you can swing up the links and pin them out of the way.

I'm thinking about trying to turn mine into disconnects.

Looks like my disconnects didn't last me very long.
I broke one last wekend on an easy trail.
I figured it was easy so why not just leave them on.
Now If I don't find some swaybar links really cheap I'm just gonna pull the swaybar out.

I also have sway bar links that you could modify to make disconnects.

If the deal with 96xj doesn't work out, pm me and I'll give ya a good deal.

They are for 4.5" lift and you can't break these lol.
