Hey guys I thought I would post up some progress of the jeeps that I work on from time to time as well as building parts.

Here are some pics of the 2 door I have been working on in my spare time
Its a 1990 2 door split window with about 6-7" of lift on 35s

I set up a longer than usual long arm system for a smoother ride at speed I was going to build it for ECORS but I just don't have the time for that yet. so I am probably going to have to sell it so I can buy more equipment and build another one later.

This is my high steer set up. I did not want to spring for a tera knuckle but by properly machining The extra spacer for misalignment and then properly welding it later with high silicon wire it will be more than strong enough.

Axle in place. I installed my poly bushing kit and used 95d poly with this. I send out 88 with my kit i sell but I wanted this axle to be extra firm.

This shows my rear mounting of the arms behind the cross member for longer setup. I used a laser cut 5/16 bracket made from 100a steel. These are stronger than 3/8 hot rolled plate.

I used the stock cross member because I would like to go that direction with my long arm kits to provide long arms for a better value.

Note the 3" of thread showing. There is still 3.5 inches of 1.5" thread still in the arm. Also note: no welded tube insert. The arms are threaded internally 6" deep. The tubing is 2" x.281 DOM

Track bar bracket. The cross brace and track bar in powder coat.

The only problem with this high steer is that heims tend to wear much faster than rod ends.
Otherwise this will work very well.

So i have been talking for a while about really wanting to get into this ECORS thing with a buddy or two. it seemed like a little fun to race other jeeps through the woods.

wahooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway I needed a stock vehicle with 4x4 that had some real oooomph!

I decided a 1998 grand Cherokee with the 5.9 litre engine was the one for me.
I found this over in Asheville and picked it up for 750.00. I fixed a bad battery cable with a pocket knife. started it up and drove it on the trailer. Needless to say the seller was a little flabbergasted that her jeep just needed a little TLC.

http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr308/ibuildbigtoys/thenewironman4x459.jpg

It came with a 4" lift 31" tires, rockers, a beefy track bar and JKS quick discos.

it has 185,000 miles on it but only 75,000 on the engine.

A little tune up, tranny love, and some overall tlc and we will be ready to rock!!!!!

stay tuned for the carnage. There will be chopping involved in with this monster.

The trans is a 46re beefy 4 speed but i think the fluid was never changed. its slippy. I am either going to have a really questionable sexual experience or rebuild the trans. you decide!

I've been kicking around the idea of doing a 5.9 swap into my jeep next summer, is there TONS of additional work involved like new placement of the motor mounts and custom exhaust? I know the PCM needs to snagged from the donor vehicle but would it be easier to just get the smaller V8 and then could I use the same AW4 transmission? sorry to go off topic BTW I love this thread!!!![/I]

Swapping this engine into anything but a GC made for it would be a nightmare. The early obdII system is a pain if anything is off at all it wont run. It also does not throw codes when something goes wrong its just stupid.
It does have tons of getup and go!

Today we took the big rockers off and removed all of the old speaker/amp wires for the sub woofers and garbage that was previously installed and removed.

I knew from the previous owner that the jeep overheated but not why.

The cooling fan motor is dead making the jeep overheat and put a tiny split in the rad.

We are trying to locate a new 3 wire cooling fan motor but not having any luck. They used to be all over eBay but now are nowhere to be found.

We are also going to order an aluminum radiator to help keep things even cooler.

The engine runs like a dream. We need to get rid of the year old gas and give her a tune up for sure, all fluids changed and probably a trans flush, filter change and bands tightened.

Stay tuned.

I have already been offered double that.
There is no way I'm letting this go.

Its actually the same exact model as the 5.9 my wife and i bought together as our first car. I traded that one for my 08 tacoma and have wanted another one so bad since then.

When I traded it it would go 0-60 in about 5.5 and blow most local mustangs away.

I should never have let it go.

We have already found another one for 700 that has been wrecked in the front end. Spare parts!!!!

I spent some time with the cooling fan tonight. i disassembled the entire apparatus and got the part numbers off the motor. I plan on running the radiator to a rad shop this week for a repair for a temporary fix.

I will build a full set of fixed arms for it tomorrow or wed and get the axles where they need to be so it can be driven. The rear shocks and track bar are junk so I am going to throw some spares I have on it to get it driving well.

I really want to start driving this puppy so that any real issues will surface before we start pounding on her.

I am going to get my graphics guy to do an ( ironman4x4fab.com/xjtalk.com racing ) windshield banner whipped to throw some major bragging this way.

updates to follow
