I just installed an AEM Brute Force on my XJ. So far very impressed, went from a homebuilt to this. Homebuilt worked decent, had thoughts of a snorkel, but thats gonna have to wait. Whats kind of intake is everybody running. Tell us what you have and thoughts about. Even why tou chose it.
Homebuilt.

I have a full K&N FIPK that I painted engine red a few years ago during my "almost_rice" stage. paired with my 62mm bored out throttle body, I think they & Amsoil are the only things that keep the ol' XJ breathing when she's hauling around all the steel I've added to her!
Feast your eyes on the riceness of it all (my dirty little secret...) :scared0016:

I think it looks nice. Nothing wrong with a little style with your function.

jeepthing, how much that brute force run ya? and the only time i run my homebuilt (like xjjeepthing's only with a K&N) is when i am on the street or dunes. I always put my stock one back on before a trail ride or mud bog.

And if i ever spend the money on anything intake again it will be a airflow snorkel.

I got it for a deal. The Tire Rack had them on special and we are a Tire Rack Dealer at work. I just ordered a Outerwears water repellant prefilter for the filter. I ordered a yellow one LOL

I have a home made one also it is just a $20 filter with a 3" piece of exhaust pipe. I ca not see me paying $150+ for what I did for $30. But I am going to get one of those pre filter things.

Those are cool intake setups. I'm gonna be starting on mine soon but it's gonna run to the cowl like a hummer snorkel. I rather get REAL cold air coming in than the engine compartment's sauna heat.

I have an altered K&N on mine with a different filter. I want to build one that at least gathers air from the passenger side of the engine so that it doesn't get exhaust heated air.

Rusty’s airtube and amsoil filter and prefilter. Love the prefilter, I live down a dirt lane and surrounded by fields, even with all the dust I haven’t had to clean the filter yet, just through the cover in the wash and its good to go.http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv191/stavi01xj/jeep%20stuff/intake.jpg

If this is a filter that you have to oil, you do realize that the dirtier the filter gets, the better it protects, right?
On another note, mine's good & dirty aready. How much did the pre-filters run you guys? Been thinking about one for a long time, but it seems to me that they simply cost too much.
Hmmm ... wonder if pantyhose would do the same thing ...

I don't like the location of the intake because it seems to me that sucking in water could be a problem and seeing as how my rig is kinda vertically challenged, I chose to run some 3" dryer hose from the back of the stock airbox up into the cowl. After sealing off all of the other holes in the airbox, unless I go in water up to the bottom of my windsheild, I'm good. Kinda like an invisible snorkel I guess. Not bad for like $10 either.
