They are great, they are fantastic and every one should have one on their XJ.

They help to extend the length of your trannies life. They can help during periods of heavy use such as pulling or crawling, by keeping the temp of both the tranny and the engine within normal ranges.

What is the price range for a tranny cooler?

Since I do not off road, should I still look into getting one?

I don't tow anything anymore with my jeep, but it pulls some pretty steep hills, in fact the grade I go over twice a month is the longest grade in Oregon and one of the steepest.

How inexpensive of an up grade?

After reading everything I think it is worth the money for me as well to have a tranny cooler installed. I have my new radiator going on in a few days and after that chunk is spent I'll order a tranny cooler, and have it installed.

for what its worth. FWIW if your doing a rad NOW is the time since the tranny lines are going to be removed for the rad and itll be easier to do the nessessary cutting and relocation of those lines while the old rads out. just a thought

Thats true kennzz05, might as well order it now and have it done with the radiator

You don't have to be like the others but I and the write ups I read were for the ...

B&M 70268 SuperCooler

AGREED! I am curious to know can it be mounted horizontally though? I grabbed one today at PNP today for 10$ but all the write ups I've found mount them vertically. The one I pulled it from was mounted horizontally like I want but I wasn't running either. Also, can someone tell me how I can determine the inlet from the outlet?:o

There is no inlet or outlet on the OEM version. You don't get into real inlet or outlets until you get into thermostatic controlled fans or you run temp gauges.

The enemy of automatic transmissions is heat. One of the best things that you can do is to run a trans cooler. It is money well spent. Not terribly expensive or difficult to do and you get a real benefit.

Horizontally ???

They need airflow same as a radiator ... so vertical mounting is typical.

If space etc., is a premium - and a horizontal mount is better suited to your needs ... then you'll need an electric fan setup for it. Some sellers have cooler/fan, kits.

If you're referring to mounting a, "stacked plate" cooler ... so the fins are horizontal ... then - thats the way mine is.

Ive even got the inlet & outlet on the bottom which is a bit of a no no, in regards to possible air pockets in the cooler ... It is only a ... long term, temporary, arrangement tho :D ... and Ive got enough gauges to detect an issue with cooling performance.

As the others said ... the inlet / outlet doesnt really matter ... unless the cooler has some sort of, built in, cold weather bypass - as some do.
