OK lets say your stock spring has 10 coils and your 3" coil has 15, now in between each coil there is 1/2 of compression movement and 1" of down travel,.. See where I am going,.. You still have the same droop and compression using the spacer as stock,..

Now you can just do the spacer and it will ride similar to stock with the stock size tire,.. now add the weight and offset of the per say 31" tire. Now you have changed the geometry and your coil rate is the same.

Now your stock spring is made for "street" use and then you want to go out pound it down the trail , shock it in the rocks,.. bounce it off a dune, is the durability there?

I mean its ok to use a spacer but in the long run I can see you being limited by the stock stuff and you will just end up tearing it out and doing it again,... or at least I did LOL!

And when you break down the costs your spending money on shocks, likely tire and maybe rims the difference in cost to go from a $50-$70 set of spacers to $200 for a set of coils its really pretty insignificant.

Just my thoughts:thumbsup:

The only reason I would use a coil over spacers is, I don't think they make a 3" spacer for a XJ. The biggest I have seen is 2".

I run 3inch spacers in the front of my 96... no problems at all. I wont keep it this way forever, just til i get money to get a real lift. Best thing about them though is a) I got mine for cheap(free, thanks matt and rene) and b) bumper approach and clearance is better with just spacers and everything else stock.

In the rear-end of mine I used 3 inch blocks. NOT permanent at all I just really wanted to get my Jeep in the air

It's just high enough for people to notice, but not high enough for them to think it's been lifted. They'll be asking your XJ if it's been working out! :smiley-laughing021:

Ya thats some good stuff there. It looks way better than the saggy ash it had when I bought it. I got this thing for $400.00 bucks. The interior is perfect, new radiator and fuel pump prior to my getting it and everything works. Thinking about the 5.0 injectors now. And maybe get some 265/75 15s instead of the 235/75 15s. I will get a bit more ground clearance. What do you think about that?

Thanks for the feed back people.

OH! I plan on getting it dirty..... I just bought 20 acres of land in Northeastern Wisconsin. I will be flogging the hello out of this thing. I may not rock crawl, or mud bog, but I work the hello out of all my trucks. Here is a pick of my last custom lift build... please comments welcome.

Cool van , seems like it would be a little tight on the trails though.
