Musta blown the inner axle at the diff when i snapped the long side axle tube this last weekend in my 96? HP Dana 30 last weekend. (I think this specific dana 30 is a 1996.)

I have never changed one of these seals. I was quoted 17 dollars and some change at the auto parts store for a new seal. I figured since I am in there, I might as well change them both.

Someone has to of done this before and might have some tips for me. Thanks in advance.

Yeah I was pretty sure it was a seal, but didn't know that much about it so I wanted someone else to answer you. Looks like a good write up that oderdene directed you to.

I just changed mine last weekend, took about 2 hours from start to finish, that included trying to find a can of brake cleaner at 12AM.

These seals should cost 17 bucks apiece or so?

That sounds about right. It cost more on my Yukon, but that was because I was using special stuff.

i fought the seals for a bit. i did not want to screw them up because i needed the jeep on saturday for a trail cut day. i decided to say heck with the seals and i put everything back together and low and behold, it did not leak. the long side shaft was laying in the tube and probably egg shaping the seal, causing the leak. i will be forcing the seals out soon when i install my arb locker.
