I am ready to buy a XJ. I would like to know what is the best year XJ to buy. I plan on running 35 tires and a 5.5 lift. I dont know what years have the strong axles or the best ones in them. I need help picking a XJ to buy. Thanks

1999, however you'll have to do some work on the axles if you want to run 35's.

I really like my 93 especially after learning that the newer ones don't have the wing windows

Are you a smoker? That's about all the wing windows are good for, well if you don't have A/C I guess that breeze is nice.

I just really like the breeze. I don't like to use the a/c unless I absolutely have to, and when other people are in the car with me alot of times they don't like my window all the way down, so I open the wing :driving:

Makes sense, but it is a weak point as far a security goes. But you already knew that.

But it's wonderful when I lock the keys in my jeep, lol

You know whats funny

I used to work as a night auditor for a motel and friday nights were always the worst. I would usually get to work around 4pm and I always had alot on my mind and alot of papers in my hands so I always forgot my keys and would lock them in my Jeep. I would realize that my keys were locked in about 6pm every friday and then would call AAA to come out and get them back for me. Well this went on like clock work every friday for almost a year.

Then one day it hit me, the wing window in my jeep never has locked since the day I bought it, here I was calling AAA every week for something that I could do myself in like 30 sec, man did I feel stupid :headbag:

But now I know, keys locked in , not a problem

I would say a 1999 without ABS, gets you an 8.25 and a High pinion 30. With some upgraded axles, (Yukons,Alloys, Currie) I see a problem with 35's at all

Personally I think the best year is the one in good shape that you can afford and can get a good deal on!!!
