i figured it was time i made a half a$$ build thread :) so here goes it started a 89 2 door 4.o ,auto,np231,d30/35 it was a fish n game vehicle so i has roll up windows and rubber floor covering instead of carpet i really like that part and it had a broken exhaust manifold since the day i bought it for $600 as my girlfriends first car :)
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv348/08fronty/jeep/005-2.jpg
since then i have been slowly but surely building up parts first thing that went in was my pimp wood grain dash from a waggy at pick n pull
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv348/08fronty/jeep/SA400345.jpg
after that lol we swapped in the back half of a newer 23 spline case with a sye on it onto the front half of my 231 and put the t-case back in
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv348/08fronty/jeep/SA400341.jpg
then it was onto installing the rc la crossmember and t-case skid
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv348/08fronty/jeep/IMG00193-20100908-1453.jpg
i would have rather done the front suspension first but im waiting on a new d30 since mine is a disco axle so we decided to do the rear first with my new rc 4.5 " leaf packs and 2" shackles and we also swapped in my d44 with a zj disc brake swap and i had the spiders welded since its def not gonna be a dd
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv348/08fronty/jeep/IMG00192-20100908-1452.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv348/08fronty/jeep/IMG00186-20100908-1342.jpg
after that boredom got the best of me so i decided to cut the front fenders and re mount the stock flares cause imo it looks pretty clean that way
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv348/08fronty/jeep/IMG00182-20100907-1330.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv348/08fronty/jeep/IMG00180-20100907-1329.jpg
and with the flare re mounted :) with a 33 under it with no lift
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv348/08fronty/jeep/IMG00187-20100908-1343.jpg
ive still got tons of upgrades to come but thats all i got done for now let me know what you think

its a rough country 6.5" long arm

thanks for the compliments everyone just gotta finish the crossmember for my upper shock mounts and rebuild my front drivline and them damn brakes i cant wait to get it offroad:)

nismo5
10-07-2010, 04:29 PM
alright got my rear shocks on crossmember worked out good had to do it cause after i cut off the stock mounts that hang way to low i bought some ruffstuff shock mounts through the great guys at payless4x4 but then noticed the shocks that came with the rough country lift were way to long so i had to mount them at a 45 degree angle to get some length out of em and i also heard its better for articulation i just used some 1.5" 1/8" wall square tube and some plate to make the top mount and welded some bolts through it and for the bottom cause of rocks i used a 2x2 1/4" square tube cut a 2" length and then cut it in half and welded a bolt through it too :) and i think it looks pretty damn sexy also and but of course some pics

I crack up every time I see the subject of this post.

Hey I thought shocks were supposed to be mounted at a 90 degree to the surface, vertical, for best results. What does this do better, or am I just wrong?

nismo5
10-07-2010, 06:42 PM
yeah i just did a little research after the fact and they say vertical is the best for performance but my rig is only gonna be on the road to get to the trail so i dont care about body roll and what not i just heard from somewhere it was better but i guess not ?? alot of stock 4x4's come with both shocks at an angle inward i believe but biggest point of all im a broke bastard and i needed the length so i didnt have to buy new shocks :)and its fun to weld stuff

xj4life2
10-07-2010, 07:11 PM
Looks great Tim !!! I disagree with the angle of the shocks not the theory. There just a wee bit to angled, i would have like to seen them at about half of what you have, but they look good and well we'll see how they do off road . Who knows mabey I'll switch to that style. overall the rig looks great !! Almost time to go break it !!!!!!!!

well got to brake in the xj for the first time went to a local place called the highlakes it was pretty awesome went on short notice fri night camped and came back sat had a little prob on the way in though i dropped of a little rock ledge and smashed my gas tank really bad and broke my fuel sending unit so it was spitting gas out but managed to make it to camp then the next day it was still leaking so we dropped the tank and rtv'ed the line waited a while and slapped it back in and ill be damned wheeled the whole day and not a drop of gas huge  to mike(ballma164) and his buddy austin for the great idea and help with the trail fix and now some pics :)

thanks for all the kind words fellas hopefully there will be tons of pics soon i need to get out and drive this thing more the best part is one of my hard brakelines on my rear axle decided to blow out on the way up there so i was driving on 3 brakes with a pair of vice grips crimping off the other hard line taped to the axle tube :) also i made it down the rock ledge in the pics and the toyota in the pics at the top had 37's locked front and rear with front chromo axle shafts and he sheared off all his knuckle studs going down it so needless to say the xj made us proud hahahaha

After some more consideration.. I have decided you should get rid of that front and back bumper.. and go ahead and send them to me for disposal!! LOL... Sounds like a fun time.. and not only did the XJ beat the Yota on that one.. it did it with a missing brake setup.. LOL.. even better!!

well since i had to bleed the system anyway after replacing the broken brake line i decided to upgrade to a 95-96 dual diaphragm booster and master cylinder ive had sitting around waiting for a good reason to go in i didnt do anything to the prop valve yet but ive gotta say this is about one of the best mods ive done to my jeep so far the brakes are awesome now all i gotta do now is melt the corner of my washer fluid bottle so it fits back in :)

well did a little more work my rc bushings were shot out after a few trail rides so i decided to go to f100 springs in the rear and get the rc shackle relocators and flip them backwards and cut part of them off so my bumper would still work also took the rig up to get a x mas tree it was a fun trip oh also added a couple more tubes to the front bumper :)
