I have a friend off another forum from the Bay Area that came up last night and spent the night here. He wanted to do some mild wheeling so we went up Cohassett Rd. It has mixed ownership so is not maintained and only gets a little better, at least from our perspective every year. It has lots of wash outs, large puddles in the winter and a half dozen mud holes in the wet season capable of swallowing a Jeep. The grades are long with big changes in altitude, so a good cooling system is required and a small lift is recommended. A stock rig could make it, but would be bottoming out in a few places.

The view into the Ishi Wilderness from about 4000'

Sometimes the road is narrow with steep drop offs.

Yes, lots of volcanic stuff poking up in this area. Further down the road is a piece of lave called black rock. A single piece of lava pushed up the size of a small mountain.

I am going to do some more exploring up that way. This is a good winter run with plenty of mud if you like that sort of wheeling. I was always wondering where the locals were finding the red stuff. My map says there are some more potential technical trails. If there are not locked gates involved there might be some real good wheeling yet to be discovered.

Looks like an awesome place to go out and wheel. Wish I could find somewhere like that down my way.

You are always welcome here. But I do realize Maryland is a long ways away.

Ha yeah it's a bit of a hike, but if me and my XJ ever find ourselves out there I'll definitely let you know!

Do that. We can provide some fun from historical tours to hard core rock crawling and everything in between.

Sounds like a good deal to me, if you ever find yourself in MD/WV I'll return the favor.

I might take you up on that. At some point I am going to grab the wife and take off into the sunrise. If we go very far into the sunset, we will get our feet wet.

Haha and unless you get a snorkel that probably wouldn't be the best idea

It needs to be a long one. It gets deep before we get to Hawaii
