The next step for my Cherokee after the bumper will be these (http://www.totalfab.net/images/products/full6.jpg)? I'm gonna order a set after I get my bumper done. Company's name is Total Fab (http://www.totalfab.net/) and theirs are the only quarter panel armor I have seen that have a bend near the top & goes all the way up to just below the window. If y'all could see my XJ up close, you'd understand why I need these :mad0090: . They also have even more unique body armor for the XJ. I'm gonna be pretty well known by these guys when I'm done!

Add to those the XJ Boomerang (if I can convince DetoursUSA) and I'll be set. :jumping0041:

I know that THOR (http://www.thor4x4.com/) & Rock Lizard Fab (http://www.rocklizardfabrications.com/cherokee_gila_monster_armor.htm) also have quarter panel guards, but theirs stop just below the bend in the body. Plus RLF has this really dumb idea to add extra steel to interrupt the side view of the tail lights (http://www.rocklizardfabrications.com/100_0761.jpg), which will never pass inspection in Jersey. Duh!!

Comments?? And does any one else know of other places that have XJ body armor? um ... click the links ...

Detours used to do armor, but I'll tell ya.....those are some nice parts you found, I'd be curious how well they fit. I'm going to go back and read what I can about them.

2 minutes later.....
Alright.....not much info, did you get pricing?
How thick is the steel?
Fitment looks very nice,

Lets see what kinda shape your bodies in. :cheerleader:

Okay, according to the reply I got from them yesterday, the quarter panels including shipping to my zip would be $294.20. That's not bad considering that there's a bend in the steel and there's more panel coverage than RLF & THOR. I already have taillight guards, and like I said, my panels are accident prone, so I will appreciate the extra coverage.

Thickness he said is ".119 cold rolled steel". In layman's terms, what does that mean, Spanky? How does .119 compare to 3/16th steel?

No diamond plate, Mud (thank goodness!)

.119 ~ Well, if they're using the metic system, not good- that would only be 3/64th's.......

.188 ~ is 3/16th's......

I conversions, .119 only is found in centimeters.......it's pretty thin, I'd ask them again to be sure.

Side note, that upper bend in the part looks pretty tight, the lower section is rolled to fit the bodies contour............while it could be done in 3/16", it would be pretty difficult.........Price is decent, but again I think it reflects much lighter steel.

But hey, I could be wrong............

PS: Lets see what kinda shape your bodies in. :cheerleader: (XJ ;))

When Detours made this type of armor what thickness did you use? PM xjjeepthing and ask what thickness his rear quarter armor is. I would think a 3/16ths plate that size would be 40-50 lbs. That is a lot of weight to be hanging on the rear quarters sheet metal.

I don't think he has armor. I think it's just paint! Like you said, the weight of the steel might be a bit much, but Rockizard's 3/16th armor is pretty popular, and I'm not going to do any drilling into my sheet metal for any flimsy bit of wannabe armor. I imagine it could be braced from the inside if necessary. Take a look at C-Rok's armor (http://www.c-rok.com/qp.html) for the lower quarter. They use a sort of inner brace, nut strips ... a feature that no one else has. These aren't that tough to make and would help the panels keep their position, and also strengthen the whole application.
Spanky if my design/engineering "savvy" is not so savvy after all, please feel free to chime in. (By the way, you & I have some business to transact!!!)

C-Rok's stuff is great but it fails to cover the entire quarter like the lighter weight stuff you showed us earlier. I like that enen if it is thinner. I think with a little bedliner it would ward off most brush scratches and maybe some rock rash as well.

It 'should' actually turn out to be 6 thousands lighter than 1/8" steel after checking my chart in the shop rather than the 'net'.........considering it's formed & rolled, I think it's most likely a good product!
