The Mopar Parts manual also shows the winch assembly. What is the weight rating of the winch and I also would not trust the fairlead mounted to the stock bumper. It is way to flimsy..

Edit: Upon reading the link it appears it may have been a 6K lbs winch.

I have a factory bumper with the winch mounts, and it had a factory brush guard as well. Got them on a used XJ i bought. All the parts look pretty flimsy to me. Not something I would trust to REAL offroading.

I brought up this idea to JCR.. and they didn't think there was enough room to do a hidden winch. I didn't discuss it with them any further though I knew the factory offered one. There may be a bit of clearance issues with a larger winch though..

I think their stage 1 or 2 bumper with a hidden winch would be a good set up providing a good approach angle.

I would suggest you don't do this. Not from the perspective of the parts involved, but from the standpoint of winch operation. If you use your winch, at some point you will pinch a cable in between two other strands on a lower wrap. When this happens, it can be almost impossible to get out by pulling on it without another vehicle. If you have access to it, you can use pry bars or screw drivers or something to help free it up. Also, when winding in, you will load up one side. It is best to stop before it gets so loaded up you cannot free spool it out to redistribute the windings.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you, full bumper is where it's at baby!

I'm not sayin that the backbone system is better than a full bumper, just that if one wanted to keep the stock/factory look, the detours kit can't really be beat
