That's interesting. I don't understand why having a NP242 would make a difference. I have the Rough Country 4.5" lift and I have a NP242J transfer case. Mine is a 1998.

Don't forget that Ron with 4wheelingplus.com (a xjtalk vendor) can help you with that question. Also he gives xjtalk members a good discount.

I am not seeing the problem either. Must be minor.

I wouldn't put much stock in what I say :), but I've heard that the reason they say it only works with the NP231 is because that the 231 is the tcase it was designed with, but in fact it actually works fine with the NP242. They just say that for liability reasons.
I am not sure if that is accurate though.

Actually the only reason they say it wont fit is because the 242 will not accept the SYE kit that is recomended for the 4.5" kit . I also have a 4.5" plus on mine with the 242 and have no issues at all the drive line in the rear will be 5/8" shorter than previously if useing springs or add a leaf , blocks it would not make a differance. And in all reality neather does being 5/8" shorter. If you are still concerned about it let me say that there are a few SYE kits available for the 242.

That makes sense. Thanks!

you can always do a tc drop kit to help with the angle if you cant do a hack n tap. thats the only sye available for the 242

I had an 89' that i had over 6" lift with a 242. I bought the BDS Transfer case drop brakcets to lower the case. I also ran Daystar shackles, BDS 4.5 lift springs, and 1 1/2" angled lift blocks. I wheeled that jeep hard until I rolled it over in natural bridge kentucky in a dried up creek bed..I never had a vibration and never worried about the shaft falling out. Just ike Payless 4x said they make a SYE for the 242. I dont think you have any thing to worry about..

Are we talking about the RC 4.5" long arm or short arm kit? I been following the long arm threads and it's been reported that the 242 will work with the RC LA kit if you raise the drivetrain back to stock. The crossmember supplied with the LA kit drops the drivetrain a bit, about an inch, and the 242 will end up hitting the t-case skid so using 1" spacers under the tranny mount will raise the drivetrain back up and allow the 242 to fit.

Is that why you were making a spacer Mud?

not cuz of the 242, but cuz I want the driveline back up. It's binding my t-case lever a little and i feel some more idle vibes from the tilted drivetrain.

The person who did the spacer trick had the 242 and said it fit. I can't recall if it was on naxja or jeepforum.

Makes sense, it is what I would do. I might space my own up a little because the weight of the Atlas smashes the stock tranny mount kind of flat

Just looked at the link Mud. Nothing wrong with what he did, but I would do it differently and save some time and effort. Instead of spacing the bottom of the mount, I would have spaced the top. Two bolts instead of four and wouldn't have to remove the mount to do it.
