View Full Version : There's a reason KC calls them daylighters...

Ok I mounted the KC 130 watt daylighters last week on the new winch bumper, but didn't get around to wiring them up via the included harness until today.

It's dark now so I just went out to see how well my "in the garage" aiming was. Horrible. They were aiming about 20 feet in front of the nose.

I pulled back into the driveway, closed the garage door and used the headlights on the garage as a guide.

I adjusted them just above the low beams and in the same general direction.

Then pulled back out into the street for final adjustment.

OMG! Those things are so bright I am still having trouble seeing the PC screen, and I'm getting over mild nausea! I'm not even going to mention the heat, MY GOD THE HEAT.

These things are easily 3 to 4 times brighter than my Silverstar headlights. If I turn off the headlights with the daylights on, I can't notice a difference!

I must get more!!! :smiley-laughing021:

From what I've seen on the price of the HIDs "broke" is part of the buying process.

The KCs I have are not as bright as my Hella 500s were. But they are more focused like a pencil beam.

Yes these are definatly tighter than my headlights.

I'm starting to feel better now. Seriously those things made me nauseous.

I wish they have the full sized daylighters set up the same way as the slimlites. The slimlites come in focused and wide (naming correct?)

I plan on having the middle ones pointed directly in front of the rig, then the ones on the side pointing more to the left and right. We'll see once I get all 4 on.

Everything about the KC lights are very nice. Wiring harness and switch included. Installed very easily, a large part of that due to Spanky putting holes at the base of the main loop. Fed the wires into the tube and they popped out into the opening behind the bumper. Very very nice.

No exposed wires!

How convient of him to do that. My two are bumper mounted I have to hoop like you do. I guess I could add one but that will be on the to do list at the bottom. I am now designing a mount platform for my Surco Hellas and some little lights to supplement my real dim backup lights.

Yep, he offered that when I told him I'd figure out a way to run the wires.

I paid $99 each, 6000 Kelvin. I had four standard but now run only two 7".

I thought HIDs were 300 to 700 each. Not bad, double what I paid for my KCs

I just ordered another kit and two more soft covers. :D Quadratec will match price and shipping, but you have to call them on the phone. Screw that, I just ordered from autobarn online, same price as Quadratec FREE SHIPPING and I don't have to dial a number, wait for someone to answer blah blah blah...

Oh everyone else buy from Quadratec though, I want them there if I need them.

For anyone on a tight budget there's a guy on ebay sellin autopal offroad lights for cheap they look like KC daylighters but do not come as a kit or with harness and covers. You can make your own harness and use kc lens covers and still save over a hundred. I have experience with his h4 headlight conversion and I like them as much as the ipf h4's I had on the last xj. They cost me around $30 shipped 2 lens and 2 100/55 bulbs. Usin them for a year now with no problems. He also has bulbs real cheaphttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/badtzmar2/SR20DET%20%20EXA/hid003.jpg

As far as I know KC Daylighters come in 100 watt and 130 watt. The 100 watt version is $50 each, at least that's what I paid, and they come with a wiring harness. Oh and they are round.

Cool Brian, I always like cheaper things ;)
I personnaly prefer the square style.... fits better with the lines of the XJ....

Oh wait before I can do more lights, there are things that need to be done... i am sure my electrical system would not like having to give me daylight in the middle of the night ;)

I didn't do anything on mine except hook them up. I was concerned that running an additional 400 watts of lighting, along with headlights, running lights and A/C for an hour would cause a problem. It didn't. I run the Red Top Optima battery. Eventually I'd like to go to two batteries though, and may need to if I go forward with 4 additional 100 watt lights on the roof.

Oh and I believe the shape of "round" provides more useful light, at least in the form of a spot. A parabola can be more finely focused, I suspect.

I have 6 of the square lights on mine. 2 on guard and 4 up top. They give off enough light to land a small plane lol. Now just savin up for some to put under back bumper for reverse lights.

That was the H4 headlight conversion and mine are the euro lens not multi like in photo because I couldn't find the offroad ones on photobucket and I told about my H4 conversion in my post that I bought, but they are $25 a pop for 6" 100 watt. 1 pair H3 100 watt bulbs $6 and $8 for a pair H3 130 watt bulbs. They shipped from texas. I found out about them on naxja. It pays to read the entire post. That's 2 lens and 2 100/55 bulbs for about $30 shipped. The price of one 55/60 silverstar. Like I said as good as IPF and hella conversion and less than the price of 1 lens from either manufacturer.

It also pays to make your post clearer so you don't have to be the author to understand it.

I don't mind misunderstandings and the effort to make things clear, however I do take issue when the person writing the text assumes that the misunderstanding is clearly the fault of the individual reading what was written.

Yes they are, and thank you. That was something I picked up from ebay. Jeff, xjjeepthing, had them on his yellow XJ. I asked him and he pointed me to the reseller on ebay.

I've had them for a couple of years now, and I don't recall the name of the reseller.
