well it looks like the trans went out in the xj :thumbdown: have any of y'all had anything like this happen ? yeasterday i went to leave from home and i started up the jeep and no nothing no drive and no rev. i get home last night and i try it and it works for about a block then nothing let it set for a min. or two and it works again for a little bit :mad: so anyone out there had that happen ?????? i found a parts xj so i do have a trans that i can use :thumbsup: btw its a auto 95 with a 4.0 242 tc . anyone need any parts :thumbsup:the parts jeep is a running and driving xj 4.0 auto with a 231 tc . i dont know the miles but its a 91 so i bet there high

Could be the torque converter going. Look for leaks. Check fluid level.

I know this will sound strange but check the connections on the TPS and on the TCU. Both affect the tranny and could cause the described symptoms. AW4s seldom go bad.

its full checked it 3 times

ill do that it shifts good when it works but it only works for about a block

Could be the torque converter going. Look for leaks. Check fluid level.

im thinking torque converter too or front pump its had a wine in it for months

TPS will prevent it from shifting and also prevents lockup.

Its all electronics so may not be consistent.

what i think or feel is that something came apart so theres :turd: in the pan and the filter is getting cloged with it but no i havent pulled the pan yet ill do that sat when i get it on the lift

put a 2nd hand trans in my 95 last year.... good fun job:smiley-scared002: mine was dead but, let go when i was driving, before that i did have shifting problems and a small leak i thought i had fixed...think i may have missed something:smiley-laughing021: all good now but....

im working on a lift with a trans jack so it shouldnt be to bad im thinking about 2 hr or so. i picked up my parts xj last night :thumbsup:

tell me if ya do it in 2 hr or so.....full day for me swapping mine around..frist time i done a trans.....man they put some bolts in some far out places...all good :thumbsup:have fun mate

I usually ask people to do that, if they have time. I know when I work on things, it's hard for me to stop and take a picture, so I understand if you can't.

It really helps folks that haven't done a job before, or haven't done it in a long time.

well its in about 4 hr from start to done. thats pulling from one xj then pulling my trans pulling both tc putting my tc on the other trans then putting it back in mine :shocker:im not sure what year the trans is but the tc is a sealed unit mybe out of a newer xj or maybe a tj ill put some pic up i dont have any of it going in my buddy showed up to help so it was a hurry up install :eek: i will be up at the shop tomorow as well looks like its getting lifted:thumbsup: my gf got me a lift kit for my bday it came in today :thumbsup::thumbsup: 3 in rough country

The lift is on my Jeep, I have a couple of air tools, and I've played the part of a trans jack before. lol
