i got a 96 xj 4.0 with 204,000+ I'm running 10w-40 i live in florida and it has been 40-55degrees here for the last week and i notice that my oil pressure has been 60+ in guessing it goes by PSI ? so what should a normal oil pressure be ?

I believe 20psi at idle and 60psi with throttle is pretty common.

May be as high as 60psi upon startup but should run about 20-30 at warm idle. Mine has about 80psi when cold and around 30 psi after running up to normal temp. Mine has a high volumn pump and a oversized oil filter too. So that may explain my elevated numbers. I use full synthetic oil too.

10 PSI per 1,000 RPM's of the engine is the generally accepted standard.

I too have a High volume oil pump and I use an over sized oil filter normally on the highway about 60psi at 2000 rpm. Once warmed up it idles about 35-40psi.

Just to give me an idea of what these PSI measurements are can someone translate them in to the tick marks on the standard oil pressure gauge?

I couldn't find a good picture but about 10 and 2 on the gauge would be about 20psi (10 o'clock position) and 60psi (2 o'clock position).

Good deal, thanks!

Mine is clearly marked in 20 lb increments. Maybe they changed on later stuff as mine are both Renix era Jeeps.

I thought my 98 was the same way, but I'm going to have to check when I leave to go home this evening. I'll take a picture if I remember.

My oil gauge is marked at 20, 40, 60, 80 and it's a 95 sport.
