Alright guys I know it's a weird question and I should probably already know this but I don't and I now have two boys who have child seats and I don't know how to lock them in there and make sure they're secure

I think it depends on the child seat. The ones I used you had to snake the seat belt through them. My step-son recently had a child and the car seat clips directly to the metal hooks that the seat belt is hooked to. Don't know if it's a difference in brands or a difference in standards. 2000 was probably the last time we used child seats for our girls.

As Tony said, run the seatbelt through the back of the carseat and cinch that sucker down tight. Because of the design of the seat belt the seats may try to fall towards the center during turns. You may have a link or two riveted to the floor in the cargo area, similar to this:

The carseats should have a strap in the rear with a clip that you can run over the back seat and to the link/ring. Cinch this down real tight as well and it will keep the seat from moving sideways.

If you don't have those tie down points you should add them. They are cheap.
