What brand of winch can you recommend for my 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport? I am currently online window shopping for one and I am really tempted to place an order on an Smittybilt Winch (http://4wheelonline.com/jeep/Smittybilt_Winches.134507) that I saw in 4wheelonline. It is on sale and a part of their free shipping promo. Please help me decide.

I run a smittybilt 8000lbs on my truggy for years, and never had a problem with it. I would suggest you save up till you can get the rope instead of cable. It's worth it's weight in gold with safety and time saved when rolling it in...No kinks and light weight when you gotta drag out alot of cable.

It really depends on how much you use it and how many people are waiting for you to move your a$$ on the trail. :D

I have a 9500 lbs SuperWinch on my Jeep and a SmittyBuilt(sp?) on my wife's TJ. The TJ will probably never see any off road time, so the winch is really for me to use if one of the family slides off the road, or if my Jeep needs to get pulled out of something.

I say go with a better brand based on how important it working is.

Cable or synthetic... I use what the wrecker driver's use. When they switch to synthetic I may as well.

Each have their own benefits and problems.
