I picked up this 2015 JK project that had a dash fire from my brother. He was building a crawler project out of it. He scrapped it and went with a 71 chevy c10 on a 2004 chevy 2wd frame instead. It's a real cool project and I'll get some pics for you guy's.

Here's the 2011 JK parts tub that came with it, for all the little stuff, dash, heater box, steering column, windshield wiper motor, seats and console.

My buddy has a brand new JKU Rubicon Hardrock with 8,000 miles on it. I got everything from under his JK, axles, shocks, control arms, steering, steering box, brake lines and calipers. Here's his jeep with the new RockJock 70's under it.

After all weekend of laying under mine it's rolling and on the trailer headed home from my brothers....

Any idea why he bought a Rubicon if he was just going to replace with RockJock 70s?

It's just the way he is, The Hardrock JKU is the best and that's all he'll buy. He also owns the Daddy Longlegs Poison spyder LJ, he wheels it all over the country.

This is a pic of my brother Jerry's C10. It's sitting on a 2004 chevy truck frame, has a 6.0 LS in it and a D60/14 bolt under it... It's got a long way to go but he's working on it.

I helped Jerry mount his cab and front clip on the new frame and I was amazed at how nice it all came together. So I've been doing some measuring on the JK frame and it looks like except for stretching it, the J10 cab would fit nicely, the JK frame is actually wider then the J10 frame. JK's are OK but I think I'm going to the next step and sitting the j10 cab on the JK frame and see if I can go farther... There stretching the JK frames by putting a longer frame section in the middle like this.

I fully endorse the J10 cab on the JK frame. Especially if the J10 has this grill.

Mixing and matching frames. You guys are gluttons for punishment

Yea I know, but I keep thinking I want all that brand new steering, axles and suspension under my j10. I could just mount them under the J10 but I'd never get the geometry as good as they do from the factory. No geometry in mounting a cab..no worry's about how it will drive. Bonus is Jerry already bought all the mounts to bolt a LS in the JK frame so that's already done. Not saying it's possible yet but it's close enough to set the cab.

Me, I would rather work with the suspension. That is where my roots are

My frame on the j10 will also take a lot of time and money to make serviceable again...I think I can mount this cab in a day... The JK frame still has the factory stickers on it.. I dig working with rust free metal......LOL

I'm going with the kaiser grill and I'm going to build my own thriftside bed for it..I want it to look like a this. I love the stance and the look, fit's an old timer like me.

Look forward to seeing more on this build... I like the look of that J10 truck.. I've always wanted an FSJ... especially the trucks... and was wanting to build it up for an occasional DD and trail rig... but now with the little one, I'll either keep building the XJ... or look for a FSJ SUV.. so that I can take the little one and the little lady with me on trail runs.. or camping trips or whatever I decide to do with it.. I like the idea of the old school rig, with the handling of a new vehicle... and I'm also not a huge fan of the JK's... Now that LJ your friend has on the other hand... You got a nice deal on the axles and everything from him... he def has some money to invest in his rides... Maybe one day... (although highly doubtful) I'll have that kind of dough...

All my projects are low budget I think that's the fun part of building...I had a fsj Waggie when I met my wife, there all I use to drive. You'll find one, Here's the black one it's the one I'm going to use and the white one I bought for parts. It's a running driving truck till I stole the tires off it for another project...LOL

Nice deal... Yeah the FSJ's I've found are either trashed, or rusted to hell... and either way they apparently have some 24k gold hidden in the frame rails or something... cause people up here want an arm and a leg for them, and they're missing all kind of things, to include solid panels/frames.. But in time.. no rush.. I'll look some more once I get down to SC or GA or wherever I end up once my GF graduates school..

jonb8

You'll find one, there not impossible yet, took about a year to find the black on which had a solid cab and a title...FSJ Wagoneers seem to be the gold lined Jeeps of the day... I've been looking for 86-91 interior/dash and column forever.... Dash cover in a waggie is worth more then my house...LOL

I did find several JK 4 dr frames today for 900 bucks, might just be easier then stretching my 2dr. The 4 dr JK's wheelbase is only a couple inches shorter and by moving the leaf springs around in the rear I can make that work...Looks like someone is already putting old jeeps on JK frames, nice clean job by the looks of it.

Saw this JKU with an old J-truck looking front clip and made me think of your project that you have in the works.

jonb8
04-07-2017, 05:53 PM
As soon as I saw it I went out and measured the JK and the J10 width. You can't tell it but they took at least 8 inches out of the hood and core support...Clean job I can't see it but I did see they welded the JK fender to the J10 fender right were the side hood latches are to help hide it.... My project has changed a little, I bought another J10 truck the other day. perfect frame, bed and front clip. The cab isn't really too bad, so I'm rethinking everything now that I have a rust free frame.. Here it is, but I didn't get the flags...LOL

Started on the new J10 this morning and finally drove it off the trailer around 2 this afternoon. It hadn't run in years and needed to pretty much touch everything. Got it in the garage and did some brake work then off for a test drive..Except for a non existent exhaust system it was a good shakedown...

I really have no idea what to do with all this stuff...LOL and when I don't know what to do I don't do anything. I'm going to finish up a couple other projects and think on it. I just finished up a Honey do so she should leave me alone for awhile. My wife wanted a yard swing so I built her this to hang her swing on.

I'm almost done putting all the parts I have on this thing, going back in the yard till I decide if I wanna put the 5.3 in it. It came with motor mounts and motor trans and transfer but I might keep that stuff for my J10....

That's awesome... Coming along nicely... Need to put the 5.3 in there to be able to sell it... and then pick up a 5.9 or even better a 5.7 (Hemi) for the J10 build... lol But yeah, can't say that I'd blame ya for keeping the 5.3 for the J10 build...

Well I finally made a decision on the JK, My wife went to Harlan with me and really enjoyed it so I'm going to build her a beginner crawler out of it. She has decided after 10 years to racing she's ready to try something different so were going to pull her 4.6 stroker/trans/transfer out of the Comanche and put it all in the JK, I'm going to stick with what I know and that's 4.0's and Chrystler wiring. The J trucks are sold and now I can move on...LOL

We raced the MJ last weekend and won, so the truck is going out on top and that's more important then anything. I'm going to start the project by stripping what I want off the MJ and selling off what's left. Right now it's muddy and my power washer won't start...It's alway's something LOL

I'm thinking about running no flares and 35's with no lift so I swapped out the angry grill today and mounted up some 35 12.50's to see if I liked the stance... Seems good to me, I did order a set of wheel spacers. I think I'll leave the suspension alone for now and work on drivetrain and paint...

Looks reasonable. 35s are not that big a tire on those and with no flares piece of cake
