I am playing with the idea of a front locker, since my jeep needs to be an everyday driver and to be its best on the trail will a full locking front diff be a good idea? Or is there a better affordable idea?

You can lock either end with a selectable or automatic locker. Some of us have both ends locked and have good highway manners on dry pavement. It is snow and ice that are a problem with lockers. The vehicle tends to want to go straight. If you live in snow, a selectable locker is best since it allows you to have the best of both worlds

I ordered up a set of Lokka's for my 97 XJ. They are lunchbox lockers, and even though I currently live up in DE where we do have snow... I know of quite a few people here that run either Lokka brand or a very similar setup in their Jeeps, and they said so long as you aren't driving like an idiot in the snow or heavy on the skinny pedal, handing isn't all the bad in the snow, you just have to kind of relearn how it'll handle in the snow, but said it is not too noticeable so long as you aren't crazy on the skinny pedal, especially on corners..

Thanks! I live in Wisconsin and deal with snow an ice. So automatic lockers would be a good choice.

Maybe you misunderstood. Selectable lockers would be the best for you in the north. As stated, it is possible to learn how to deal with automatic lockers in snow, but it means driving with that eggshell between your foot and pedal

Right now its stock, i do a lot of back country camping within Wisconsin and upper Michigan. So trails threw the woods is the worst its going to see. A good trail vehicle is what I want it to be.

I would throw the locker coin at lift /tires /and winch.....doesn't have to be huge ...mild lift slight tire change in tire size (save re gearing and still good on the gas on highway motoring) bulbar /winch /recovery gear.............just a thought ...................

I have to agree with my bud down under. I think you might be overestimating what you need for "trails". I think you might be better served by the Detroit True Trac. The rear will acheive 70% lockup and front 40%. Both can be used in snow and ice situations very well. In fact, using both would make an awesome trail rig

Jeep will do very well with opens diffs. Mild lift and tires would be first. Lock the front if you have more cash to spend. Recovery points and gear would be ranked above locker as well.

agree the trutrac would be a good one

Some body armor along with recovery points are next on my list. I am going to make a brush gaurd similar to this one -the bottom half. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170209/8add37021bd9ce75af00c3e5b1337014.jpg .also some nurf bars like these. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170209/47010268f69eba4f5cb0bbb716a6c8ec.jpg. Then 3" lift with 31's
