I have a whole list of work to do on my jeep in the next year and I thought we would get started soon. Thought you guys and gals would like to chyme in. If I get enough verbal responses and help I also might have a new GF pic I could add to the list of things to get done. She doesn't have much on. :) I'm sure you guys won't like that pic.

The jeep xj has 255K on it and runs good. I's just getting older and needs some love. So with the cost of new SUV's at about $40K I really don't see a reason why I can't spend $1500 over the next year on upgrades and safety so that my son will get a nicely functioning good condition vehicle.

I'm looking to buy a 2007-2011 Lexus IS 250. The Jeep will still be mine and will be my fun project vehicle. I suspect we will have it another 10 years.

He will get it when I hit about 280K.

#1 Rear Main seal what brand?
oil pan seal , what brand?
oil pump what is the best type or brand?

#2 Rear shackles. I'm getting the polyurethane/rubber combo, unless you guys can find me a better one.

#3 Rear Bushings
2 rear drag links polyurethane
2 sway bar bushings polyurethane

All of the stuff above is for spring break coming up. I don't think that's too bad of a list.

Early Summer

#4 Top of the line track bar with replacement metal plate to change the
type of bar.
Front springs.

#5
Master cylinder, two brake calipers, 2 brake new brake hoses.

Other items I would like to replace but don't know when, most likely summer.

2 seat covers with heaters underneath.
2 new front seat belts.
rear hitch
Front drive shaft and rear drive shaft
neutral safety switch
Padded hood liner
2nd funny horn
roof rack with lights.

Alright so the first 3 are on deck. I need to start buying parts and seals. I want the best parts.

Sounds like a good game plan you got for the XJ.. and even more so to have the XJ setup and ready to be a safe and reliable ride to pass on!!

I have never put this much money into a vehicle this old. But I guess $1500 isn't all that much.

If I bought a used vehicle for say $3,000 I would probably have a vehicle in worse shape that this jeep. At least I know what has been done with the jeep.

Besides. with a jeep I know he will stand a chance in an accident versus a car. Plus the jeep is a 4 x 4

Plus it's a JEEP!! LOL And none of that current Jeep ****.. Yeah I think you're much better off giving him the XJ as a vehicle over picking up another used ride of unknown shape and care...

brilliant on so many levels.
Pic of GF, don't keep us waiting.
IS is a nice car. friend has one, he likes it. fairly quick too.
RMS is more of a design flaw than anything. 2 piece seal that just doesn't hold up. I bought Dodo Zone seal to replace mine. still holding up after a few thousand miles. be patient getting it out, if you damage the cap it will never seal up right. I pushed it out with a pic, then a small punch IIRC. put soap on it to help feed through.
