I'm new to jeep and just recently bought this 1990 xj, from what I understand it has a dana 30 high pinion front end. Is this right? Also how do I convert it to manual locking hubs??

Yes to high pinion. Converting to locking hubs is doable two ways, neither cheap. First you can buy a kit from Warn. Over $1000. Second get all the parts from the Cs out from an early D30. This is a much stronger set up than the Warn stuff anyway

So do you cut the C's off the old axle and weld them onto the newer XJ Dana 30 or do you mean you can keep the C's on the XJ Dana 30 and just swap knuckles, bearings, etc?

You can keep the Cs, but you need the stub shaft, knuckle, hub, spindle etc.

From all my researchs you have to cut the C's off and weld on the new one.
