So I decided that lifter tick had to go.. Or at least I hope it was lifter tick. Otherwise I removed my cylinder head for no reason... Will find out tomorrow when it's all back together. Already wasted a perfectly good head gasket that I just put on earlier this year when I replaced the cylinder head that was apparently cracked when I bought it. Wondered where all my coolant was going (ouch, sorry engine bearings!)

Rust is something that all of us XJ owners are certainly accustom to. Especially if your jeep has lived in the Midwest it's whole life, or any other region that 'every time there is a slight chance of freezing precipitation, the road crews are out salting the shit out of everything!' Well with winter approaching, I decided to take care of the rust I have, and seal things up for the salt ahead.
One spot I new I had a problem was the driver side floor pan. After pealing things back and doing a little scraping, I realized it was worse than I had hoped.

The fix, I continued grinding away the majority of the rust, just to find myself with not much metal left. I used a rust reformer on any remaining rust and ended up tacking in new sections of 1/16th inch sheet metal across the whole floor pan. I then liberally applied Bondo to both sides, this was followed by paint and then a rubberized coating. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161119/5c9e1af9402b924dbd38203c275ed6a3.jpg

Ah, rust. How well I know the pain you cause.

Looks like a job well done bud! My worst bit in the floor was just over the muffler. Might be good to check there. It seems quite common, as the heat of the exhaust radiates.

On my 2001 XJ there is a heat shield above the muffler.. Would make sense that moisture might get trapped between it and the floor pan.. I don't wanna look now haha. I'm dealing with a pushrod issue currently. Took my top end apart to replace my lifters because of a tick that I thought was lifter tick and now that I have everything back together, I don't seem to have much preload on my pushrods. I haven't had a way to measure it yet, but all my rockers have play but only in certain positions of the crank. I ordered the 9.640 in rods that I read were the size I needed. May have to go longer? Has anyone had this issue or have and correction to the length I should have in there. She runs but the valve train noise it worse than before the rebuild.

Still has valve train ticks on and off but I have a feeling it has something to do with low oil pressure and the lifters not having a good full prime?? Would say it was a waste of time and money to tear it all down to replace them, but at least I decided to candy coat it before putting it back together.

I have a coworker who drives a big dodge hemi, and he is always giving me shit on my color choice, "shoulda went with blue or red" he says. Like it's not manly enough or something.. I like it. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161226/b19e659ee477974096c268dff91dd7ff.jpg

I'm just breaking all the rules then it seems... What's the general consensus on accenting the stock diff covers? Did I pull a big poser move when I shot that with caliper paint the last time I had it off for fluid change and inspection?
