So my 99 xj needed new shocks. Now granted i bought the cheapos but that is all i could afford at the time. I got the monroe shocks from advance auto. I installed them properly and now have horrible side to side rocking. The back end feels okay but the front is an insane amount of rocking side to side. I think i need a better shock up front. Its zero lift, can anyone recommend a good affordable shock that is stiffer and will not rock so bad?

Like rocking in a boat when you hit a wave. Like there is way way way too much play in those front shocks

Something doesn't sound right. Do you still have the old ones? if so put them on and see what happens. If it stops, I would return them.

Well the front shocks did not survive the removal process so i cannot put them on. Advance still says those r right shocks but there is just no way.that is why im wondering if anyone can recommend a shock for zero lift front end of cherokee that may be better. Does not have to be 30 a piece either. I am willing to go higher to fix this.

I was thinking of going with rancho rs 5000. surely they have to be stiffer than the $27 Monroe gas o matic.......

its zero lift and the only real off road it gets is gravel roads to hunting spots so I don't need crazy good suspension...

They are stiffer for sure

Well, i put the rancho rs5000 on there and it feels good and solid again. Took thise crappy monroes back and got my money back. I have new leaf springs that i purchased for my 2000 xj for when i lift it. Since it wont be rolling for a while i am donating those new leaf springs to my 99 xj. With ne lw shocks and leaf springs it should be nice!

Interesting. I run Monroe Load Levelers on my WK and they've been great. they were a tad more than what you paid tho...

got doetsch tech (sp?) on the XJ. Have a bigger diameter, IIRC they're 5/8". solid shocks

I run Monroe Gas Magnums on mine and love them

Starting leaf springs in morning. Been soaking the bolts in pb blaster for two days, got my map torch ready....one question....anybody know what size the rear leaf spring bolt os? Its not gonna survive this. Gonna have to cut it to get it out.

Took 12 hrs. And a cutting torch. I used stock xj spec leaf springs from general spring in kc. Before the new leaf springs center rim to fender was a saggy 16 inches. Its now 21 inches. Thought it was only supposed to be like 18 but i guess brand new leafies are beefy. Babys got back now!

After 4 days of driving to work n hunting spots it is apparent i will be putting the rancho shocks in back as well. No worries. Ride is already so much better. The front bumpstops...do they just pudh in? Seems like they do but man it is tight!!

hey man, not sure what you netted on lift, but I've got an extra set of rancho 9000 XLs laying around. 29" extended, 19" compressed. LMK if you're interested.

Appreciate the offer. I was not lifting this so to speak. Just happened to get some extra beefy leaf springs i guess. I am going to match the ranchos i have up front in the back. Just want a matching set cause im wierd like that.

Works for me. These are adjustable, so you can fine tune the shock. I'll toss em in the classifieds
