Hey I just bought a Jeep Cherokee Classic 1997. Loving it so far. Been looking for a Bull bar/Bumper bar for it and hear there are 2 sorts of bolt patterns for the Jeep cherokee 1997. How would I tell the two different variations apart

Thanks mate XJ looks like a beast. I heard there where 2 different variations in 1997 here in Australia. Think one was 1991-1997 and the other 1997-2001. Not sure if its just because mine is a "Classic" 6cyl

Oh ok.. I see what you're saying... There is two different "body styles".. between the 84-96 and the 97-01.. The 84-96 is a bit more squarish and the bumpers are a little bit different between the older ones and the newer ones.. As far as I know the bull bars should still mount the same between the two variants.. but will have to take a look.. I know I took a bull bar off of a friends 90 XJ and it lined up fine on my stock 97 bumpers.. but as seen on my XJ... I decided to go with aftermarket bumpers all together.. lol

Was just about to say, looking at it, looks like it is a 96, or just an early 97... I've seen some folks that have one that is a 97 on the registration, but it still looks like the 96.. so maybe it's a late 96, released in 97... if that is even a thing... lol.. Looks like you need a full front bumper, unless you've taken it off..

Found a bumper on a standard 97 cherokee (no trim package??) $30 think she will fit?

If its a stock bumper the ends are different on the 97-01 that extend toward the tire and although I don't know for sure I doubt it would fit because the fenders extend down to the bottom of the bumper on the 94-96. If it's aftermarket, just as long as it doesn't contact the fenders than the mounting points and the front area should be the same. A grinder can fix that problem if it does. Although I know you guys vehicle laws are more strict so make sure you can cut it if that's the case.

Thanks XJ wheeler, Hoping it works but if not its only $30 that I could sell again if it doesn't workout. Gotta get the registration done in this state which means I need it inspected (only basic stuff aka safety).
