97 jeep cherokee
so i have a problem my jeep does a slow crawl in tempeture at idle and pill pass 210 and keep climbing no mater what. so this is what ive done to fix/bandage the problem
new temp. sensor
water pump
thermostat (180)
radiator(stock one cracked, put a dual core radiator)
new fan clutch
all new hoses
flushed system
after market dual 10" electric fans
heater core has been replaced earlier this year

now the problem was before all these things
does anyone have any ideas on what else could be an issue....im completely stumped!!!

put a 195 degree thermostat in instead of the 180
new radiator cap
make sure no air in system

i got a new cap with the new radiator
but what makes the 195 better
i assume its a jeep computer bs that just works?

I have a question about how many cfm your fans pull. You need a combined output of 3000 cfm to match stock. Most aftermarket fans will not pull enough

the two fans are in addition to the stock clutch fan, and secondary fan
but they do about 1800

i dont have any pictures on my computer but the dual 10" fans sit in-between the radiator ant the grill, everything else is stock.

OK, so you have pushers. Those may be defeating your purpose for having them. Does your mechanical fan have a shroud and does your stock efan work and does it have a shroud

yes fan has a brand new shroud, e fan works, i just wired it to a switch and flick it around 190s to slow my climb the best i can....but my problem is that i shouldnt have to be running 4 fans hahaha i just cant figure the real issue behind the over heating....my only thoughts could be something involving ac compressor causing a problem

Have you checked the coolant for exhaust gasses?

You dont mean that it's the engines fault? It can't be any blown gaskets I don't think... I got a reman with 15,000 on it

Are you going by the gauge on the dash? Did you cross check it with a infrared thermometer? sometimes the dash gauge in not all that accurate.

Another thing I just thought of. Does your lower radiator hose have a spring in it? I've heard of after market hoses collapsing and sucking shut.

Pull your oil cap off and look at the bottom of it. Is there any moisture or white stuff on it at all....When you fill your xj with antifreeze take the top radiator hose off at the thermostat housing and hold the hose up and fill it till antifreeze comes out the housing. That way you know all the air is out of block.

So I put the 195 thermostat in and that definitely helped me out a lot it will stay at 2:10 but with the Ac on 2 it will bounce between 210 to 212 any higher the AC goes my temperature will rise I also cut the fans off on the front to see if maybe I had too many pushers and just run the clutch fan and the electric fan and that help me out a little but now when I'm driving it wants to stay at 2:15 to 220s and when I stop it cools back down any idea?

One question, are the fans really pushers or did you swap the grounds to get them to run backwards? Also with the fans there, even running they will restrict air flow unless they are able to pass the same amount or better of air, especially the one in front of the stock mechanical fan which is able to pull 1800 cfm. The temps climb a little with the AC on because the condenser coil is hot, feeding hotter air to the radiator so it has to work harder to cool the engine

And I know about it working header but not 10 degrees hotter?
And they're actually pushers

Yes, 10° increase is common in marginal systems. And the XJ radiator design is marginal to begin with. Also venting the hood helps. But most people do not vent for highway air flow. Here is a pic of vents in proper position for max cooling at speed. This is the spot where vacuum helps draw more air through the radiator

Well damn buddy I do appreciate all your help and Baron with me trying to figure out my issue, I might look into vents like that, or cut more space out under my hood louvers

Those are home grown, but there are vents you can buy to install there
