Hello everyone. I'm new to the site and look forward to being part of the XJ community. I have a 2000 Cherokee that I'm getting a rough idle and a misfire code on cylinder 2 this occurred after the engine had overheated. I've replaced injectors, coil pack, plugs. Has anyone else had this happen and what might be the solution.

Being overheated be weary of a blown head gasket and/or a cracked head. The 2000-2001 4.0 liters are known to crack.
Not sure if it's related to your issue or not, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Prerunner is right you need to look into head gasket/cracked 0331 head. See if there's any milky looking stuff on dipstick or oil cap, what did the old plugs look like? Pull 2 and 3 back out and look at them again. Do a compression check if you got a tester and go from there. Between 2 and 3 are were they are were 0331's are most likely to crack.

you can pull the valve cover and seen the crack in some cases. How long ago was overheat? losing coolant? pull your dipstick see if its milky

you're likely gonna end up replacing that head. I'd do it now anyway as its a matter of time. Couple options, 97-99 head from a 4.0 or an aftermarket one for $$$. clearwater in florida has a replacement thats reinforced in that area. some use 0630 heads or 0331 TUPY heads. plenty of them out there.

Thanks to everyone for the reply. It doesn't have any coolant leaks and none in the oil. I'm thinking it's the head also. Thanks again everyone.

Any head 91-99 will work ... But you'll need to make a few exhaust changes to accommodate it. If you have federal emissions, it's all pretty straight forward. If you have California emissions it gets more complicated as you'll have to retain the four O2 sensors and keep them all reading correctly.
