So I have a 91 XJ 4.0 with original engine numbers being 53008405. That engine was messed up so I received another engine that I seen run (like a champ) the the same engine number but it was from a Jeep Grand Cherokee (GC). The difference of the engines I realized was the distributors. The engine from the GC had a Camshaft Position Sensor (CPS) "plate" or "distributor pickup" as some people call it. My original engine had the distributor without the CPS "plate". Where I'm lost is im not sure if the GC engine will run with my XJ distributor. Can someone clear it up for me and the differences between the two. Thanks alot

You can swap distributors. What counts is the ECM electronics and matching that. The easiest way is to use your old distributor.

So I hear and read multiple things: When I'm setting the ignition coil, is it pointing directly at the #1 spot on the distributor cap or a lil bit past it going clockwise?
