I know someone here has built one. I want to know every tool needed to work on any XJ, yes even special tools and modified for a specific application tools. Best if you want to throw out job specific tools, such as: removing door panels requires a Phillips screw driver, flathead screwdriver and a trim removal tool. Ill edit this post in two ways, one is a running list of tools the other is job specific.

Tools:
Philips screwdriver
Flathead screwdriver
Trim removal tool

Job:
Removal of door panels: Philips screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, trim removal tool

T60 oil filter adapter remover. No way to get it off without one. Weld a 3/4 nut to the top half of the T60. I'll post a pic later

Oh, this is a good idea. I know Dan from the 4x4 Podcast was putting together a list just like this a few years ago. I wonder if he kept at it, I hope he chimes in here.

I sure hope he includes his custom made blinker fluid dipstick. That one's a time saver

you'll need plenty of this for those stubborn bolts.

Had one going for mine on my old phone. I had to warranty it, although i do have the pics on my computer when I have time at home. Everytime I'd do something to it, I'd note the placement of the nut/bolt/etc, what type it was, and what tool it took to remove/install it. Also i'd divide sections with the different areas of the vehicle. I.e. suspension... front axle... rear axle...

Something like this....

-------------------------------------------------

-Rear axle

Diff cover bolts---(10) Bolts---1/2" socket---torque 30ft-lbs.

Every Tool ..

Every tool made probably sums up an XJ toolkit .. :smiley-laughing021:

I think I started a similiar topic a good while back ... but it didnt go far,

... probably coz I kept going on about spanners and wheel braces and stuff .. :o .. :D

Job specific tools for unbolting the factory fasteners for the rear springs from my XJ.

All 1/2" drive

Breakerbar,
Ratchet,
short Ext,
13/16" deep socket,
13/16" normal socket,
13/16" Ring/ OpenEnd spanner,

Thats for 6 bolts and 3 nuts.

The 21mm Socket and 21mm Ring/ OpenEnd spanner at the bottom of the pic,

... are for nut # 4 .. :bang:

Soooo ... since I found it was typical to run into crazy mixes of fasteners,

I'm with the Californian ... and the foil hat wearer .. :D:D

To remove the hub bearing assembly, you'll need a 12point 13mm socket but a 12 point 1/2'' socket will work in a pinch.

The axle hub nut is a 36mm.

same for pinion yoke:36mm

doing rear main seal, you'll need every extension, wobble joint and u joint connection you can find. along with 1/2" socket on the end. I used my 3/8" drill bit adapter quiter a bit to snug those oil pan bolts down then torque them. You'll also need a set of picks for to get the seal itself out. and you'll need a whole lot of patience while oil/dirt fall in your face. If you do RMS, drop the pan the day before and lets as much oil drip off as you can. Then wipe down bearing caps and everything you can reach. it will help, but you'll still get oil in your face.

2 x 1/2" screw/bolt thingies at the front
1 x 1/2" screw/bolt thingy, and an 11/16" nut, at the rear.

13mm and 18mm tools - would work ... if nescessary ... a bit loose on the fasteners tho.

I used AF deep sockets and a ratchet.

Dont overtighten when refitting. :bang: ... you blokes could really learn a thing or two about how to make cars ... from the japanese .. :p .. :D:D

Ohhhh ... and you need some sort of little pokey, proddy thing - for the seat, wiring connector.

Just a little edit ... coz I got adventurous and had a look to see whether it was worth the time to repad the old seat ....

#2 Phillips screwdriver for the seatbase trim,
T45 torx for the seat belt and backrest pivot,
1/2" tool of your choice, for seat base bolts and nuts.
