Sept 19th-Oct 17th, a convoy of Military vehicles will be following the Bankhead Highway from Washington DC to San Diego, CA. This route was used in 1920 by the US Army to help understand the practicality of motorized transport.

Along the way there will also be special event stations set up.

Get more info on the route and special event stations at www.Convoyontheair.org

They will also be using APRS so you can follow their trek via real time.

They aren't coming through Oklahoma, it seems the route takes them along the southern states, except LA, where they jump up into Arkansas.

Very cool. I will be watching the NRG (National Recon Group) for an announcement.

I'll have to prep to be there when they get to San Diego. Cool to see the military fund such a thing :) Or is this more of a privately owned military vehicle thing?

This is privately owned military rigs. The majority of them will be WWII, with some Viet Nam era rigs thrown in. We have one local that is taking his rig on it. That means he will have to get it to DC first and drive it back. Gonna be a long trip. He will be keeping in touch via Facebook

I got to watch the convoy as they came into Little Rock, AR. Some really sweet rigs, all perfectly restored. It was really something to see up close.

Pretty cool they were in my hometown of Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto. I'm not sure if I'm going to get to see them come into San Diego I may be north at prior engagement that I can't really break off from.

Looks like they are currently just outside of Tucson, AZ.
