View Full Version : My XJT Story, And My How Things Have Changed....

It was 2012, when i first discovered XJ Talk...
I was at work, and looking for more outlets and sources to share and feed my Jeep addiction.... However I was looking more for a show than another forum or Jeep Site... a podcast, or series of "how to" tutorials something to entertain my ears and mind while at work.... A simple Google search, and I found The XJ Talk Show.... which of course led me here.
I lurked for months, listened to all the podcasts that had been out at that point, looking, and reading on the site, and seeing what this place was all about... It wasn't too long after that, that I decided to become a paying member.
I had benefited from the expertise here, the comradery, and atmosphere (which seems to be unique to XJT) .... and although I had contributed back through some technical articles, and posts to other people questions pulling from my OWN expertise and experience, I felt it was necessary to give back, and support the site and community that I am now glad to call my little home away from home.

Later that year, Tony had decided to pick the podcasting thing back up. He had set his mic down and went on a bit of hiatus for a while. When he came back I heard an interview with Patrick, (prcjeep) about his trip to mexico... (somewhere around episode 39 i think.)
Still to this day, that is one of my favorite interviews Tony has ever done.
At the end of the show, he mentioned that if anyone would like to be interviewed on the show, to reach out, and he'd see if it could be done.
I sat and thought about it for some time... Then decided to try my luck contacting him.

This is the message i sent....

Tony got back to me pretty quick, and we set up for an interview...
I WAS STOKED ... and a little nervous to be honest... I can sit and talk Jeep all day with someone on the trail, or with a buddy.... But for some reason, this was different.
I wanted to make sure that I was bringing my best... So instead of just calling in on my cell phone, i decided to use some of my DJ equipment to make things sound better. With my DJ mixer and a microphone hooked up to my computer, and with the creation of a Skype account... i was ready for my interview. Tony and I ended up shooting the breeze throughout the 90 minute interview... it went very well and sounded great.... so much so, that Tony asked me if i wanted to become a regular part of the show... first as a segment producer (this is how "Electrical & Audio Tips" was born) ... and if that went well enough, to then move towards more of a co-host role.
I was ecstatic, This was my first opportunity to fulfill a part of my childhood dream of being a "Radio Personality" ... The rest.... is history.

(after several weeks of doing the show, this is the set-up I had going at the time)

The show grew, as did my role in the show. Segments were added, and the chemistry between Tony and I became so natural and automatic, that it was a no brainer to start another podcast (this is how "The Tony & Josh Show" was born.)
Both shows have evolved over the years, and I can't possibly begin to put into words how proud and honored I am to be apart of this. All of you here on XJTalk.com have been like a second family to me... I have gained friends, and have been given the opportunity to help people with their build in so many ways it makes my head spin.
The amount of "warm fuzzies" i get every week couldn't possibly be quantified.
Every single week, I have more fun than I probably should on both the shows, as well as on the sites.
The interactions in the chat rooms here and on both the shows sites during the live broadcasts is priceless.

My little "podcast station" has grown over the years, from a little laptop and a mic with a tiny little mixer on a table, to a massive, multi-screen, multiple I/O audio channel, powerful mixing/recording/broadcast studio. The evolution of my own experience and equipment is nothing i could put a price tag on.
And now... (Jan 2015)

The future is bright... Tony and I have big aspirations for both shows, dreams and hopes, and NONE of it could be possible without you guys. Over the years we've seen the fan base, and listenership grow. Never before have we had such interaction with the podcasts from outside sources. From interviews with industry professionals, to the every day Jeeper like you and me... to some of you becoming official segment producers.
Steve (4.3LXJ) has been so kind and generous to step up frequently and give us one "Jeep Tip" after another, sharing his extensive knowledge base and expertise with all that is Jeep.
Even someone who wasn't with us very long, Rob... he gave us several great Jeep product reviews.
Jon (prerunner1982) has REALLY stepped up, got his HAM License and is responsible for our "Radio Comm Tech" segment.... His own development in audio recording can clearly be seen over the months in the continuing improvement of his segment production. From improved audio quality to including pictures, and slide shows to add to our live show broadcast.
Tammy (jeep momma) has come into the picture recently and has shared with us her own evolution from mother and wife, to full on Jeep enthusiast. She even stepped up and filled the role of co-host when i had to deal with some catastrophic technical difficulties in my own studio. The addition of her and ALL OF YOU that have helped over the years, has added a dynamic to the show that in my mind is the one and only reason we are still doing this... well that, and its a lot of fun too... But seriously... Without you guys this wouldn't be possible...

So I just wanted to take a minute to share with you guys my story...
And to say a very sincere... and heart felt THANK YOU.

P.S. ... I hope this may be of some inspiration to some of you out there...
That it doesn't take a job at a leading offroad parts manufacturer, or to be a part of a popular race team, or even a degree in broadcast journalism... All it takes is a story, and an email... and the willingness to "talk Jeep" with some friends .... to get on the best Jeep related show on the web.
If I can do it.... YOU can do it! :smiley-taunt002:

I always find it interesting how podcasts get started and how the hosts end up on the show. Josh, you and Tony put together a top notch show and I'm glad you guys keep it going. Keep up the good work!

It's fun to look back and I'm shocked it's been years, since it all started.
