after a semi long stint into early model water cooled vw's and some other toys, i recently picked up another xj. however this one is probably gonna spend most of its time offroad. definetly, been around the block, owned by an enthusiast at one time and then handed down several owners among people and kids who just beat the poop out of it and did barely enough to keep it running. anyway here is two pics of my old 99' i had a few years back which i belive i kinda did a halfass build thread on and its eminent demise, the vw mk2 i just got rid of and a picture from the ad of the xj i picked up in that order.

Doesn't look half bad does it? looks like it comes with a nice bumper, pretty big tires and lift to be on stock rears, body doesn't look horrible but could make a nice rig. Thing is, it didnt come with the bumper's or the tires and the body isn't as great as it looks. its got a 6.5" rusty's short arm lift, with an additional 2" shackle in the rear and 1" spacer in the front. its got control arm drop brackets booger welded onto the unibody, the right rear quarter is rotting from the inside out, and the door jams are cracking to the max which i would imagine is from someone trying to beat it with no doors on. none the less, i gave up my beloved vw which received a drivetrain swap among other vw things during the time i owned. anyway here is a pic from the day the xj came home next to my daily mk3.

so my plans for it? i'd like to make it streetable and not a hazard to everyone else on the road. probably drop the shackles in the rear and spacers as 8.5" is too much for an xj imo on the stock width rears. if i ever upgrade to full widths then maybe. for now though it is indeed a beater, a strictly woods machine. but im not gonna anywhere really fast with the stockers on it while offroad so i picked up some $50 buck 33x12.50's with whooped and clapped out tread until i really decide what im gonna do with it.

last pic is a buddy of mine and i, earlier today. overall happy with the 2.5, four cylinders of fury and the factory 4.10's that the 5 speeds came equipped with. stay tuned for more as i have definetly honed in on my mechanical and fab skills since my last build thread when i was in highschool. :xj-blue:

so spent almost half of today tracking down a driveability issue. stuttering real hard upon acceleration, cutting out in 3rd and 4th while cruising, high idle. compression test results about 150 across the board. tuned-up the ign system, ohmed out tps, iat, map, injectors and tracked it down to a bum fuel filter. throw in a new one and down the road she is again.

yes sir it was just the fuel filter, simple as that. slapped a new one in from advanced and she is happy again.

Nice past! And even though its a bit of a project (most are at this age) it looks to be ahead of the game. Good luck with the build, and keep us updated. Welcome back to the jeep thang.

Thanks guys, feels good to be back. Took the xj out on some mild trails yesterday and snapped a center pin, so limped it back to my buddy's, threw it up on the lift and replaced the center pin. Maybe tommorow I'll throw together a bumper. Can't stand not having one up front. http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p540/gregs_xjs/0b24c83d-f83d-44d5-a7bf-367d45fea76f.jpg (http://s1154.photobucket.com/user/gregs_xjs/media/0b24c83d-f83d-44d5-a7bf-367d45fea76f.jpg.html)

Those pesky center pins. Mine had one broke when I bought it. Saved a ton of money because the owner thought it was a really expensive fix. I agree, no bumper makes you feel exposed
