Just joined the jeep game a week ago. Currently battling the CEL and sensors....Once recon is running good I will start modding. Items on the list are mostly cosmetic at the moment but will expand when I have the $$.

Item list as of now, not in any order:
* make it run!!
* Paint
* tube flares
* roof rack
* find vac leak and fix
* speakers (figure out why only a few work)
* NSS - clean
* Light bar
* Headlights and Fog lights (FL=make work, readjust HL)
* Rear Hatch (latch catch is broken off)
* Fluids change (diff,tranny)
* Leaf spring (pretty much shot)
* Skid plates
* Simple Exo skeleton
* Head light covers
* LED bulbs interior domes
* DIY Cold air intake

Future if $ didnt exist:
3 or 4 link front
Suspension lift
Lockers
35's
Full Power Black Leather interior seats (2 front buckets and 3 rear buckets)
and I am sure I have more I cant think of....

Updates will probably be slow due to 1 Time 2 $$ 3 Materials....so bare with me and I am sure I will be asking tons of questions, so thank you all in advance....

Outside pics..inside pics to come later

That is the way we all are Shane. It is time and money

Agreed! I am just ready to get this thing running so I can mod! Shouldn't be long, getting a diagnostic run to pinpoint the problem then it's off to the races!

Keep us informed. It is all fun, but mods are more funner :D

little update, got a call from the shop running the diagnostics on it. Alas, it ran perfectly fine :banghead: .....no codes, no sputtering, no loss of power.....My only thought is either bad fuel(dont know how, I drove it home with out filling and that was a 45 min drive) or water in the fuel somehow from sitting....Any other input? He is gunna run it again later this afternoon to see if we can replicate the problem. Just doesnt make any sense, loaded it on the trailer and left it run and it started the problems. I have had it do it to me at least 7 times (maybe enough to purge the water??) Regardless if everything checks out the 2nd time....ITS TIME TO MOD!!!:smiley-taunt002: anyone have a vac line diagram that would contribute to my air only coming out the defrost regardless of knob position, Ive checked the spot by the battery where it rubs but no leak there, just curious if anyone had a diagram or something so I can follow and make sure I am checking the right lines.

Now what is the first thing to do? I am thinking paint so I can get on top of some of the rust spots...

Shane, if you are having the work done, I would suggest for your own peace of mind as well as fixing the problem to have him replace the crank position sensor. They can give intermittent problems when they get a lot of use on them. It is something that should be replaced every 100K, but no one does. They just wait for problems like this

I am going to be doing all the work if I am able to figure it out. I have another vehicle in the meantime to get me by. I wanted him to run the tests to pinpoint the problem so I didnt have to be throwing parts at it with no avail. Is it hard to change? Also I wondered if maybe this is a precursor to a fuel pump going out? I have come to the conclusion it is either a fuel pump going, idle air sensor, throttle position sensor and now a crank position sensor (thanks to you), my only question is could any of these work intermittently and then stop working then go back to normal?

The thing about the CPS is that it can test good, and then start to not give a clear signal to the PCM and then you have the symptoms you describe. It is not theoretically hard to change, but is difficult to get to and you need torx bits to do it. I would suggest putting in regular metric hex head bolts when you do. As I said, these things should be changed out about every 100K. That will give you a good margin of safety with them if you use the Chrysler brand

Ok is there a way to test it and get an accurate reading? I mean like voltage wise or something? Sounds like you cant....I guess I can look into it and put it on the list....cant hurt right muahaha :D

The only real test is with an oscilloscope. But if it is an intermittent problem, even that may not get it

Sounds like a good plan you got going on with your build.. I've slowly been collecting parts to do the suspension upgrade, as well as bumper and a few other upgrades while I was working on getting her through inspection and registered in my name as well as working some CEL issues.. didn't want to put all my money and time into getting the lift and stuff done only to have her sit longer while I work on trying to figure out the CEL issues.. so def don't blame you for working that little gremlin first.. Look forward to your questions and seeing your build progress...

Going to be working on it tonight will get interior pics and more outside pics. Going to be working on welding my exhaust back up and cleaning my NSS. Recon is still running fine....

This is why I was hesitant to even start a build thread, I wasnt sure I wanted to pour the $ into something that was going to give me problems. Bout the only things I am gunna do to it for a while(until it proves itself to be a solid rig) is the simple stuff I dont have to put any $ into like readjust the headlights and fix my back hatch etc. and maybe simple mods like headlight mesh covers etc. not going to do anything that costs over $50 at this point in the game. Just hate to start dumping money for serious mods, like lift, tires, rims, etc and then it takes a serious crap on me. Gunna make sure she is a solid rig first then on to the mods so we are still in the trial phase lol

I can respect that plan... I am mainly replacing the current lift setup cause it ride far rougher then any lifted vehicle I've ever ridden in before.. Don't expect it to be like a caddy.. but man.. so instead of wasting time/money on just another mix match setup, I'm going to go with the lift setup I'd want to run.. Figure if she decides to blow up on me, then I'll take the lift with me to a new rig if need be..

So I cleaned the NSS and it starts up just fine now! Also had time to reweld my muffler up so that's done. Gunna drive around some more and then I will start with some other simple mods.

I am thinking this is what I am going to do when I can get ahold of some steel to build a bumper, I will just put fogs inside those. Other question, sink the light bar into the bumper as well or mount it up top on the roof rack....Im thinking up top as to give better view and just run the rigid pod types for fogs

Got the 55 watt fogs under bumper in stock location for the 98. Had to trim the airdam a little and just mounted the 20 inch led on the top as im going to add a 50 inch next year at windsheild.http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/26/9dad93bc37c0769b9830a4ad7b10a7ee.jpg

If you are building a bumper recessed would be cool. Guy i work with did that to his new grand cherokee

You cant tell from this pick but i had to bolt my mounting brackets to the angled part of the bumper. With the heat sinks on the bar it is too wide for the flat tophttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/27/b14483d437d0544bc7e550182437e4c3.jpg
