Welcome to my 94 XJ build. It's named El-jeepo.. Not sure why, something my wife kept calling it and stuck. We bought the jeep a year ago for $800. With me (at the time) driving semi cross country, its primary use was for weekend wheeling trips and to drive up to camp. Our drive to camp once your off the paved road is a 14 mile washed out dirt road up a mountain. A trip you must have 4wd to make. It's a whole wheeling trip on its own.

It was bought with a sloppy 3 inch lift and worn 31/10.5/15 tires. Everything else to it was stock.

Since we've had it. It has gotten 33/12.5/15 tires, Cut front fenders,
Folded rear fenders, oil catch can, hood vent, both sway bars removed. A winch bumper, roof rack, 31 inch led bar and 4x 4 inch led flood lights. Also painted the lower half black. A new rebuilt rear 8.25 axle.

The front diff is a open D30, the rear is a c8.25 closed diff with 3.55 gears. It's a automatic with the 4.0l

Damages that I've endured have been a roll over into a creek bed, a small indentation in the passenger door from getting stuck on a tree and the newest one is the deer damage.

I have a lot of upgrades and builds that I would like to do, but with the new and very excited soon to be addition to our family (little baby boy ) it's going to be a slow build.

About 90% of the build is done by me.

Here is a little video walk around..

Looks like a pretty decent build you got going already... And it def seems to work well for the uses that you need it for, and that's all that really matters... Look forward to seeing the progress, no matter what the speed, so long as it keeps serving your needs!!

Decided to add side guards to my bumper. Nothing fancy but should help protect the front corners of the xj. Couldn't finish it due to running out of welding wire. Ill pick some up in the morning. But this is what I've gotten done so far.

Finished both sides yesterday.. Now to deside if I want to weld them to a plate and bolt them on or just weld them straight to the bumper.. Only thing left to do then is weld on light tabs and bed liner.

Did a little more with the bumper.. And finalizes my lighting plans for the bumper.
I desided to move my 31" bar from the rack to the bumper and replace it with a 44". I'll do that once the lights come in. I'm also placing two 12" bars on the front just below the headlight. They will be mounted on the side bars I made.
To incorporate the 31" to the bumper I made a mount that places it directly above the winch location. Oh yeah! Still need a winch...

Here are all the pieces waiting for the install..
Once the lights come in and the fender and grill gets repaired. I'll install the bumper add ons..
I desided to weld them to a plate then bolt them on.. That way if I bend them up I can easily replace the damaged ones

It's a warn 8000VR

I'm still here... Just a quick update.. Did a E-fan swap, ordered a 3-core radiator, oil cooler, trans cooler, steering cooler, and a hi-flow water pump that I had to install this morning.
Also picked up my steel for my rear bumper/tire swing out.
Being a new father and work has me swamped but Ill get it all posted here soon

I Finally have some time to update the build..

Ill start with the e-fan upgrade. Ive wanted to do this mod for awhile now. Using 10in fans I was able to fit three of them with a little trimming. The controller is still a WIP, right now they are wired together as one on relays. I've done this mod about 2.5 months ago and have had some time to get results for this post. The fan swap is awesome as you will see in the pics and video. And they are handling the temp quite well. One BIG problem I found with the way the belt is routed is that heavy water crossings tend to make the alt slip. Making it critical to do a top relocation bracket for it. Still need to get that done. Over all I feel it is a great mod.

Some trimming is required for the new belt but not necessary for the relocation of the alt.

Finally have some time free to work on the xj.

I replaced the headliner. That was fun.

Biggest excitement is the new rubber. GT radials adventuro M/T 33/12.5/15
I'm already loving these tires. Aggressive and very quiet. But I'm a little worried about there softness.

Also my 4.5" lift came in. Picked up extra nuts and bolts, ect..

Time to get busy..

I am interested in those tires. Where did you get them?

Not trying to plug the company. Discount tires direct.. One of the online tire stores. $612.00 shipped.

I only drive about 40 miles a week not counting the wheeling adventures. Just drive it to work at the beginning of the week and back at the end of the week. Drive my semi home weekdays. And soon the jeep will be decommissioned as my DD.

So far my take on the tires, with my experience is that if your not aggressive on the pavement and with proper inflation and rotation. They should last a average driver I say a good solid 1 to 1 1/2 years, Like I mentioned they are soft.
Of course this is all a guess. I'll keep it updated at time goes.

Finally got some time to update the build.

Let's see... Finished my 4.5" lift, and replaced all bolts.. All new brakes and exhaust. Got it inspected and was pulled over for no fender flares so I went with the ol lawn edger DIY flares. I don't really have to many pics.. Was under a timeline to get this all done.

Next is my tire carrier. I have a 2x4x16 1/4 steel just laying around..

Today after work I finally had time to do a shakedown run on this setup. To recap it's 33's with a 4.5 lift..

ALL I CAN SAY IS I LOVE THIS SETUP!!!!

Plenty of flex and just the right amount of lift to get me over things. The ride wasn't to bad across the gravel access road. This is also the first time with my new tires and I definitely will be looking at another set of them when these are ready for replacement.

One of the things I'm puzzled about is my overheating problem didn't arise. Temps stayed below 210.. So apparently my overheating is only at highway speeds?!?!?

Going back out tomorrow..
Here are some quick pics.

Thanks.. It's starting to lean on the one side.. The more I talk to people the more I thing it just needs to settle. My bro-Inlaw runs a 7" front and 8" rear and side by side I'm almost as tall as him. For the tire carrier, I have a plan in my head of the design. I want it to be field strip able.

i ordered more LED offroad lights. Have a 12" coming and 2x 4" on the way. They are the osram style LEDs. The 4" will be mounted to my a-pillers and I'm building a light bar over the winch for the 12". Today I cut and welded up the main bar. I'll need to relocate the winch's electrical box to the inside of the engine compartment. Once the main bar is installed I'll weld in some back bracing. Also need to build pillar mounts.

Mounted the farm lift to the roof rack the other day. Not sure if I'm going the keep it here or inside the cargo area once the internal rack is finished. I'm also going to redo my roof rack but I'll post about that when I start it..

Look forward to the tire carrier build. Conjuring up one of my one, jus don't know when I will get to it. Jeep looks good. I definitely think you got more than 4.5" out of that lift. Taller than mine and it measures 5" front and 5.5" rear.

Yeah I've desided against the rear carrier.. I just can't get past the possibility of it failing as I drive down the road. Also it's just going to be too heavy for my comfort. I think the internal carrier/cargo rack as pictured in above post will be more practical.

I've decide to take a different approach to my spare tire.. No longer going to do a rear bumper carrier. Just too many variables running they my head..

So this is what I decided to do

That was an idea that had occurred to me as well... and may still do it, we'll see how this tire carrier bumper I have feels to me and fairs after a bit of use and wear & tear!! Although unfortunately I'll be buying a prebuilt setup, or pay someone to custom build one for me, as I have no equipment or skills for fabrication & welding.. Then again if this bumper will work and can make due long enough, I'd be willing to give it a whirl, and pick up a decent little welder to learn myself how to stick some metal together!!

Also need to build pillar mounts.

If you get bored or stuck on building the pillar mounts, hit up Jake (XJ Wheeler) (http://www.xjtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20005).. I got a set of his pillar mounts which I plan on hopefully installing in the next day or so, and they are a nicely built set, and a nicely priced set at that...

Finally got my lights in... All I can say is WOW.. These are bright. They are the osram. A 12" and 2x 4". I've made pillar mounts for the 4" and a light bar for the 12" but like always changed plans at the last minute. Decided to just mount them to my bumper.

You'll love the osram lights. Far better than cree or epistar in my opinion.

Wishing I had held off on ordering some of my lights, so that I could pick up some Osram lights... But the ones I have, will work just fine for me, for a bit..

The output all looks good, well worth the money and time!!

Yeah, I wish I would have gotten my 50" as an osram. But I may eventually replace it, depending on funds. But I accidentally bought a 12", without knowing it had osrams, and its truly an amazing difference. Really worth the extra price. I'm planning, when I rework my rear bumper, mounting up a set of osram flood cubes. I've tried the spots, but anxious to see a flood version.

The one thing I love about my xj is that there's always something that needs done. HA!!
Today I tackled the driver side brake pad sliders on the knuckle. While looking over my hub I noticed the common groves in the railing. The repair wasn't that bad to do. With a sanding disc, welder and torch. It was a simple 1/2 hr job.

Top and bottom before.

After this quick fix I decided to rebuild the caliper. Turns out the o-ring was twisted inside..

Now my brakes seem to operate smoothly for now..

Sry.. Build was put on hold for a little while, but after driving up to camp yesterday, the gears are starting to turn.

I've decided that my front bumper ms approach angle is not to my satisfaction. So I've started with the design. I'm going to cut the angle and mount my winch on top. I'll go more in depth when I start the mod.

This gives you a idea on what to look for.

The black line will be the cut line.

Good idea. There is a lot to be said for a good approach angle

Here's the plan. Note, this is not to scale but this is what I've come up with.
The front corners will have d-ring mounts and the belly of the bumper will have flush mount LEDs.

Those leds are pretty vulnerable there. Might think about a guard or grille.

I thought about that. With them being cheapo's not really concerned at this point. Will probably work something in down the road.

Then again, they are advertising that you can take a circular saw to them and drag then down the road by the cords! :D
