$198 because I ***** the guy from $200 down to $199, and then $198 because I found something like $1.14 in change throughout the jeep. So I guess I could technically drop it on down to the $197 Turd.

Got it home and it was in nasty shape inside. The person before me had terrible kids. They themselves also must not have cared much for cleanliness.

Threw a little cleaning on it and it is much better. Honestly it needs a good shampooing inside to really bring out the potential, but I'm not the person to do that. It isn't going to be my DD so I'm not going to get that crazy. 172372 miles on it after I charged the battery to see if all the lights and radio worked.

On the exterior there is some paint starting to come off. We stopped by the carwash on the way home and I had some paint chips flying as I was power washing it. The entire thing though is fairly rust free. For these parts it is a miracle it is the way it is. The undercarriage is is excellent. There is a bit surface rust by the rain gutters. Other than that and a little on the hitch it is pretty clean.

The back hatch won't open, other than that I didn't have any issues with anything else. NP231 Tcase, front 30, rear 35. Skid plate up front protecting gear box, also has gas tank skid. Wish my DD came with those goodies. Thinking about moving those over to my 98. Also came with factory hitch. Other than that, cruise and A/C it is pretty bare bones. Kind of what I wanted in my DD. I think if it had a title I would keep it in a heart beat and turn it into a trail rig. Keep the 98 stock and build this guy.

According to the previous owner one of the pistons hit plug 2 one morning he fired it up and he shut it off and left it where it was not doing anything to it. Not sure whether or not it would be worth a rebuild, or just throwing in something different. If I haven't gotten rid of it by time the flurries start falling I am going to make room in the back of the garage and start tearing it down to see what I find.

Surprised the headliner was still everywhere it was supposed to be.

This area is the worst spot on my 98. Excellent on this one.

For now at least it joins my stable of vehicles that is more than likely 1 or 2 too many...Not pictured is the rusty but trusty 77 Custom 20 that has been the tow rig for 3 generations.

Man, if my kids did stuff like that, they wouldn't sit for a month

The pics don't really do justice to just how grimy it was. Some people just live different I guess. It did make me wonder what their house looked like inside.

That is sad to see condition, no kids or not... Mine went through hell in the mud and otherwise and the inside still looked as close to new as a 98 could look.. Heck the only negative for the interior of mine was a cig burn from PO in the passenger seat and where the carpet was worn from a heal impressions over the years... I would def be pissed if my kids did anything close to that, not to mention I'm pretty sure that didn't just happen from one instance of the kids!! I'd def say pull the skids if you are going to let it go and put them on your 98.. But if nothing else, if you tow the rig to the trails, I don't see why you couldn't use this one as a trail rig only, if you have a bill of sale and everything from the registered owner to prove you did in fact purchase the vehicle from him or her, and that he/she didn't have the title anymore.. which is most likely buried under a pile of junk or refuse in their house, judging by the condition of the Jeep..

Nice score! Pull the front skid, gas tank skid, and TC skid and put them on your Jeep! After selling the HP30 and AW4/NP231 you'll more than made your money back before even scrapping the rest. I'm sure you could find someone looking for a rust-free 4door shell if you can't bear to see it crushed.

don't think i'm going to take the TC skid as i'll have one when i install the Clayton 3-link/4-link setup on the 98. I do though think i'm going to take the other two skids.

If anyone wants everything sans the skids let me know.

$600 for the whole shebang sans the front and rear skids.

Well shit... For that cheap I would have bought it to. It's a great start for a full time off-road vehicle and if worse came to worse you could part it out and easily make your money back. Wish I found a deal like that!

so is the TC skid up for grabs?

Not parting it at the moment, but if I do decide on it you have dibs.

Well that was odd. As I was typing that message to you someone had backed into my driveway with a car hauler, proceeded to load the 97, knocked on my door handed me $500 and asked for the key. So sorry, no tcase skid plate.

I've noticed a few in the junkyards around here, if you're interested I'll keep an eye out for you.
