For the last few weeks my ignition would lock up when I tried to turn my key, I would have to wiggle it, pull it in and out, and curse at it before it would allow me to turn my Jeep on ( calling it a "filthy whore"usually did the trick ). Last night I spent 3.5 hours to try and start it but to no avail. I ordered a new cylinder off Ebay with my key code so I do not have to replace all of my other locks

Too bad you don't have the older XJ's, you can pick those ignition switches up just about everywhere (since they are GM types)... and wouldn't matter whether the key matched or not since the ignition switch was always a different key then the doors anyways.. Hope it is a quick swap out for you so you can get back to enjoying your XJ!!

try taping on the key with a screw driver handle the sidebar in the lock cyl. is sticking and yes you will need to replace it. It will be a lot easyer if you can steel turn it.

I used a hammer to get that key unstuck, it took me 4.5 hours but I got it. The replacement cylinder only cost $40.00
