Ditto Tony.

Just because our front diff pumpkin doesn't move up and down when we drive over rocks you ignore us! Just because our hoods bulge a little here and there, you dis us.

We are worthy!

Just read the article in petersen's 4 wheel and offroad magazine and it received the second lowest in the group(it didn't finish last by one point). They had some nice things to say about the interior but that was about it, they referred to it being basically a car.

That is because it is a 4WD car

I don't disagree even if it was a Trailhawk edition. One editor said it had the off road handling of a sheet of plywood. The article had me laughing and crying at the same time.

It basically maintains forward momentum though electronic and very few mechanical means. You don't even get a "low range" unless you get the trail hawk model. Honestly though it will do most things here in Southern Cali. Maybe with a bit of body damage but it'd make it.

I'm not an overall supporter of the KL, I now that it and the Renegade ar necessary evils needed to help the jeep line mpg average high. My only pet peeve in it all is the bastardization of the name badges and their history.

My mother had one of these when I was growing up.. This was the first vehicle I learned to drive in.. Had a blast when we went mudding with it.

My wife bought a white Trailhawk last night, and I really like it. It is snowing today and the AWD system is as sure-footed as anything I have driven. I know you guys aren't too keen on the use of the Cherokee name, but this seems to be quite a capable little crossover. I don't expect it to do the same trails as my wrangler, but i'm pretty sure it would handle the main loop at the closest park (Kansas Rocks) without too much trouble. More than enough for my wife and what she is looking for.

I hate it when people are lied to, and saying the Trailhawk is an off road rig, well, and then there's the name. I've heard several good things about it. Sounds like they build a good vehicle, but then again so does Volkswagon, ya know?

I don't know Tony... AT tires, hard tow points all around, full factory skid plates, low range transfer case with 47.8:1 overall crawl ratio, and a factory rear locker? Sounds pretty capable for a compact SUV no matter what the name is. Is there anything out there that is even comparable? Besides a wrangler (or XJ), obviously.

It sounds like they did their homework and at least from the stats engineered it well, but did it have to look like a shoe and be called a Cherokee?

Well I don't know how much of a locker it is, but yes I'm sure it could get through a ditch at a 45 degree angle but the XJ is able to get and over the curb to get to the ditch. :smiley-taunt002:

It is true that IN SOME situations, the new KL is more capable. That being smooth surfaces. In those examples, yes if you have gently curving mounds or V shaped areas where the XJ could lift a wheel on one corner or both. But in comparison, if you took a stock XJ on the Rubicon, with a crew of 22 people to stack rocks etc, then the comparison changes. In that situation, the stock XJ would out perform the KL

I dunno, my daughter upgraded/downgraded to a new beetle. It's like Hitler is alive and well and designing affordable cars.
But it matches her shoes and purse.

It comes with an "Offroad kit" with a tow strap, d-rings, and gloves as well. Although, whether that is to pull other people out or to help someone pull you out... That is the question :)

That certainly is the question... I don't have any issues with the KL as a whole.. just the use of the name... Other then that, from what I've seen and the quick drive I took a TrailHawk on while my Ram was being serviced.. wasn't too bad, but it did loose traction on just the rain slicked streets... but thought about taking one for a test drive since we got about 5 inches of snow (right now)... I'll even take my XJ up there for some comparison in the same conditions.. (almost same conditions..since the XJ is sitting @ 5" of lift and 31" MT's.. LOL)...
