part located on 98 XJ front driveshaft
in the midst of replacing my U-joints, needle bearings fell out of mine.
i went on a search to find a new one.
a full part (bearing and cast steel housing) was $60-80
a bearing repair kit cost $25-45.

the part was called by 4 dif names.
double cardon joint
constant velocity joint
CV centering yoke
H yoke

i only bought the ball replacement kit. (3 peices) im poor lol

HERES HOW TO REPLACE IT
remove front drive shaft
using 8mm socket or wrench

put your driveshaft on your table and remove the U-joints(good time to replace them anyways)
upon removing the ujoints the yoke peice will fall right out.

i used 4 long wood screws and screwed it to my work table to hold it.
pry off the thin top washer with a flat head screwdriver.
then pry out the ball

then your left with the bearing cup. theres no back or bottom opening to push it out.
i used a drill and carbide bur to mill it in half.
enough space to peel it outwith a flat head

then clean out the housing. and put new grease in it

then set in the new cup and bearing(1 piece) i used a 31/32 socket.
perfect fit socket. hammered it in

same method for then the top metal washer peice

then clean and regrease the cup dealy on the cardan housing. n put the spring back in it

then take out the carboard dealy holding the bearings in

then push it into the back into the cardan housing with the spring. if you greased it will it will want to push itself off from so much grease :rolleye0012:

then you have to wrestle the new u joint on holding the yoke dealy on or use a zip tie to hold it on.

Nice writeup... I plan on picking up two new front driveshafts to rebuild and install when I do the SYE, and then will rebuild the original front shaft to have as a spare... I figured the double cardon joint would be the biggest PITA to rebuild..

Awesome write up! Wish i would have seen this two weeks ago. I just had my rear drive shaft rebuilt and it cost 200 bucks and from what i have been told, that was a great price. Oh well i have to do the front one now so ar least i can save money on that one by doing it myself. Thanks for including pics!
