Here's my Yaesu 2900r install in my 93. I didn't really have a need for a dual band radio, and if I do I use my FT60R HT. The only real reason I'd use 70cm is to listen to Highway Patrol, but they're switching to a trunked system, so the point is moot.

Powerwerx 10ga ring terminals with fuses and terminated with Anderson Power Poles, attached to PowerWerx 10ga run along the passenger side fender, firewall and routed thru an existing hole in the drivers side, under the dash to center console.

Another set of Anderson Powerpoles at the radio. Radio is mounted to the center console.

Larsen NMO mount in the center of the roof(ground plane!) with an STICO Flexiwhip(don't have to worry about it getting removed by trees or parking garages). Coax is run along the headliner, down passenger side a-pillar, through dash to center console.

Radio in it's home, mic holder is held in place with loctite double sided tape.

Thanks for the share. My buddy Matt suggested that I move all my positive wires from the battery to the PDC just behind the battery. It has a pretty long bolt there that you can attach several positive lines. Plus it has a plastic cover that makes it nice and neat.

PDC?

Power Distribution Center, that thing behind the battery where the fuses and relays are. Raise the little plastic box just in front of it. You'll see a nice positively charged bolt! :D

Must be a late model XJ thing.

Well crap! Sorry about that. I've only ever had late models, a 98 and then a 99. I'll snap a picture and post up just so you know I'm not lying to you.

Hmmm extra positive tie in AND cup holders! :D

Here is the PDC in my 93. Don't know about a long bolt, but there are two on the front where the battery cable connects that are under a small black cover.

Yup, as soon as that "NEW" main fuse gets here! My 92 will be Brand New!
Well, not really... It needs a new cigarette lighter and bulb is out on the fog lights switch...

Oh who am I kidding, I love my little fixer upper, lower, left side, Right side, back side, differential, u-joints, drive shaft, flasher, injectors, spark plugs, transfer case extension housing, vacuum lines, Window motor, lock motors... all of them,
Ah yes my little hobby horse!

Making a hot ham and cheese are we?

I had a FT-2900 in my Trailblazer. Pulled it a few weeks ago for a Motorola PM400. Love the Sti-Co…somewhere I've got a video of me running mine (it's going to go on my XJ next time I'm near it) on my Trailblazer through a parking garage as fast as I could safely drive specifically trying to whack it on stuff. Looks like it did the day I bought it.

Been debating about moving my dual band antenna to a 5/8 wave Larsen WB VHF antenna, swapping it with the ARPS 1/4 wave on the roof and then adding a UHF knob.

Generally advise grounding to the chassis over the battery when not using a fuse on the negative side…especially on an off road vehicle.
