so my rear brakes need to be changed either new shoes (cheap side) or awitch to rear disks (upgrade side) that being said I am looking for the "backing pad" the part that you boly every thing on to from either

02-?? Libby

96-98 GC

or compatable from crown vic.

I still need to check a local JY but if I cant get any bites in the next week or so I will just get shoes for now and wait on the upgrade.

I have a extra set of mid 90's ZJ backing plates, calipers + a ZJ and KJ handbrake cables.

I'm using it to setup an axle I'm working on, so it will have the backing plate opened up for your 8.25 when I'm done with them.

Let me know if you would be interested in them.

I'd be interested in picking those parts up from ya if the OP doesn't... What shape are the calipers in??

At worst they are worth core value, They do still have the softlines and banjo bolts.
I do have a one extra set of ZJ calipers without backing plates if you are interested. I'll try to get some pics up later.

they will fit CHR 8.25 axle? if not what must i do.

you have a set(calipers.back plates) to sell still? how muchy

bluedragon436

Only thing that has to be done to get these to fit the 8.25 is to open up the axle flange opening in the middle of the backing plate a little bit.. Other then that they are darn near bolt on setup IIRC from the research I've done on this conversion..

oh so just bore out the middle making it hub centric? easy as cake with drill and carbide bur.
theres a ZJ here in the junk yard but i really dont think i will get them off without fighting lots of rust. broken bolts. (the dread of working on parts no1 ever touches)

bluedragon436
05-06-2014, 11:10 AM
Yeah it's not quite hub centric... but it'd be axle centric I guess.. lol... but yeah same theory, but to be able to fit over the flange at the end of the axle!!

These have been opened up already, Enough that a D44 bearing will pass thru, Should just bolt onto a 8.25. I'm done with using them to re-drill a D44 to the new pattern So, If thesupercroc passes I'll let Y'all know.

It looks like this set is sold, There is a local yard that has a few ZJs If I can get there how many of Y'all would be interested in a setup?

Wish there was more then one or two JY's that had somewhat of a stock of ZJ's that I could pull these parts off of... How much would it run to pick up a setup from ya?? Even more so if you able to open them up as needed?

Good question! I can get you guys set ups to if you want ie the backing plates and the calipers from the jy I can do it for 50 bucks + shipping

XjJeepacorn

I can source the rest of the parts to but I don't know how cost effective it will be with shipping even with my parts store account.

James, you should see the yards here. Last time had to be 15 ZJs in one yard. Shame really, some were nicer than most on the road. :(

Sent via messenger pigeon - i talk, he types.

Wow, Your yard must give away brake parts! At $50+shipping it's not quite worth my time.

If I get another set $175 shipped, Machine work done, 8.25 ready. This would include: backing plated loaded with E-brake hardware, calipers, soft lines, banjo bolts, And Possibly A ZJ and KJ E-brake cables (This is what I run, '96-'01 needs a short and long cable.) and 10 front wheel studs.

do you guys know of the wheel studs from the fr9nt of either the kj or zj have the longer studs?

4.3LXJ
06-12-2014, 01:15 AM
The studs will have a longer shank for the disc brake rotors

XjJeepacorn
06-12-2014, 06:37 AM
yeah with mine I whacked out of some of my xj stuff. what I was asking was if the front axels on either the zj or the kj have longer studs and if so are they long enough for the rear

rabies
06-12-2014, 07:53 AM
hmm. good question. the longer the better. i assume the kj would have longer ones cuz they had pretty thick alloy wheels but so did zj

grainofsalt

IIRC The front KJ studs don't work, The rear KJ studs I know for sure don't.

And If you have a choice I'd go KJ setup over the ZJ, The throwaway thickness on the KJ is the starting thickness for the ZJ. KJ also has anti-rattle clips, and a nice little boot over the bleeder valve.
