I just got my 96 Cherokee a few days ago and now I am trying to go through it and see what and all is needed to be fixed. Well the first obvious issue was there was no radio. No big deal radio is easy. Wire in the new radio and turn it on and nothing. Ok so now I go to locate speakers in the truck. Well the problem occurs. There are none, anywhere. So I start trying to find where they could be mounted. I checked the doors, dash, side panels, everywhere and the only place I can positively say there were speakers mounted were in the rear cargo door. So I tried to install some 4" speakers where I thought would be a good spot like under the glove box where there is a vent in the plastic trim. It was obvious that a 4" speaker wasnt mounted in the dash. So if anyone can help me on what size speakers go where in the truck I'd appreciate it. Currently I do not have a headliner but the more and more I fight this speaker placement I think more and more about getting one and putting the speakers in the headliner. Any help is appreciated.

stock speaker locations are 5.25" in the doors (some had 4" in the dash, but meh. - not gonna get much outta those)
If you (carefully) pull back the door panel at the forward most lower corner, you'll see the opening where they could be mounted.

You may be able to fit in a SLIM 6.5" speaker in this location, but it may be best to mount it on top of the door panel, (cutting thru it) so you can space it out from the window (when rolled down)

For the rear, you';ll find provisions for 5.25" speakers there too...these could be in the rear gate,

.....or in a speaker pod in the headliner (if you can source one)

In any case, here are the wire colors you'll be looking for and their polarity:
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Green
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown/Red
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Violet
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Blue/Red

Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown/Yellow
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown/Light Blue
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue/White
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Blue/Orange

not sure where they have been terminated in YOUR vehicles case, but you should be able to find them in the main harness going to the rear of the vehicle. Just be sure to test them before you start cutting/splicing into them.

Hope this helps!

Always a good source : http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Car/outfitmycar/car.aspx
I sort of doubt it will retain the year/make/model info. But if you go to the home page you can enter that in. It will give you factory and optional speaker locations as well as the speaker sizes that will fit.

This is awesome! I have tried to find the factory wiring with no luck so I am just gonna run my own wiring for the speakers. I am going to have to keep my eye out of the speaker pod for the roof because that is the ideal location for me.

Actually if I could find 2 of those speaker pods i could mount one in the front and one in the rear and take care of my speaker problem all together

Shouldn't be too hard to source at least one.
