Silicone vacuum lines and canister relocation

A few questions.
1..A friend was showing off his lil honda crx. ( insert sexual orientation joke here) I noticed he had those fancy colored silicon vacuum lines. anybody have an opinion on them. they look nice but do they hold up?

2.. I want to relocate the vacuum canister out of the bumper. I have a squre one I pulled from a mini van.

3..Does it have to be the same size as the original? Can I go smaller?

4..Do I even need it?

Coming from the sport compact world I personally never had an issue with them on my Civic. I only kept that car 2 years. $1500 profit. Last I talked to guy who bought the car 3 years later all he replaced was the distributor. Id buy the red ones if I needed a vacuum line as we all know red is faster than blue.
