I just rebuilt the 4.0 in my 88 wagoneer limited, fired it today and it's running like the timing is off or the sparkplug wires are on wrong but they are on right. I lined up the timing marks on the sprockets and even checked the pin count on the chain like it shows in the book. While it is running it's sucking a lot of air through the intake. Any ideas????

Sorry i haven't got back to this but it turned out to be the cps. Engine is running great now and have just over 4000 miles on it. it does idle a little low and the fuel milage sucks and i haven't been able to figure that out yet.

Well more importantly you got it fixed. It's great to have the solution here in the thread though.
