I was having trouble with the fuel injectors on my 86 Ranger. I read somewhere on the internet about cleaning them cheap. I removed the injectors, the O-rings from them, and soaked them in a can of carb cleaner overnight. The next day I hooked a spare connector from a junk truck on the injector, and with a battery to hold the injector open, I used a blowgun with 50 lbs air pressure and blew through the injector both directions, reinstalled w/new O-rings and it ran fine and still does 2 yrs. later.

I wish I knew this earlier. i just swapped in some Ford injectors...

Do injectors have a filter of some sort inside them?

I "think" I remember reading somewhere that putting a constant 12 volt to the injectors damages them. I'll have to go back and see if I can find that. I guess if you did it and they still work something must be a miss. Either my memory or understanding. I thought I better post this as a just in case though.

When I cleaned my injectors I just had the battery hooked up long enough to blow them out with air. The injectors are just like small solenoids to pull the needle off the seat to allow fuel spray. It didn't hurt mine, but I don't for sure.

YouTube - cleaning fuel injectors

I'm still looking. I found some information that you can use a double A "AA" battery, not Jeep specific though.

I cleaned a set on a Ford Escort today,I used a car battery that read 11.87 volts and nerer had a problem. I just used carb and blew them out with air,I didn't change anything else and it ran OK.

I never understood why posting to an old thread was a problem. To me it just shows that you are trying to find an answer.
