Hello, I have a 2004 Jeep grand cherokee and my dash lights won't turn on automatically anymore, they work if I turn the switch on but not by the sensor. any advice on where the sensor is or where I should start looking would be appreciated.
thank you

That is a good question. I cannot answer that now, but after we get our factory service manual in the mail I probably can. I can tell you right now that there is a sensor on the dash by the windshield in front of the instrument panel. That would be my first guess

Sensor is usually in the dash, up by the defrost vents by the windshield.
I think it looks like this:

The trim/shroud should just pop out with a little persuasion, (not 100% sure though)
...and the sensor itself is held in place with two screws.
OEM P/N: 56042584AA
(same for 99-03)

You may need something like this "skewdrwiver" to get it out....

That was the one I was talking about. And yes, the trim just pops out
