A Commando is more along the lines of a old Jeep CJ7.... 1966-1973.

Never heard of a XJ Commando.

May have been a dealer decal package or something.

Interesting... never heard of such an animal. Could always contact Jeep to request a build sheet to see if it has anything "special".

Just a side note on tittles. DMV issues them and they don't always know what they are doing. For instance, I have a rare M422A1 Mighty Mite. When I transferred the tittle, the gal said what is that? I said it is like a Jeep, only smaller. So the tittle says Jeep. Not even close

Very good point and what I believe likely happened. Someone probably couldn't remember the name Cherokee... and called it a Commando instead.

i was told it was because its has the command trax four wheel drive system that is why my jeep says part time when i put it in gear.. that is why its called a commander pre commander model before they called the commander the commander :xj-yellow::drinking::bang:

Yeah, CommandTrac on the XJ just means the NP231 same TC I have in my XJ. I've read quite a bit on the history of Jeeps and the only Commando I know of is the Jeepster Commando based on the CJ platform, but I suspect you already know that. Sounds like someone at the DMV must've had a 3 martini lunch before filling out that title application.

lol and i also had a the guy that works on my jeep pull the vin and he called it a commando lol ..
