Tony has mentioned on past podcast episodes that I like to eat will in the back country and for some reason, there isn't any dedicated for threads (that I can find). So I'm starting one!

As I come across my old recipe posts, I'll share them here. I'd also like to get your favorites so please share them.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Bambi burgers! I've got a kind of ALF attitude towards veggies; "That's not food, that's what food EATS!":bacondance:

As for offroad fare I like cold sandwiches and hot intake burritos.

Y'all are killing me! There's a big difference between surviving and thriving. Exhaust manifold cooking is okay in a pinch but it doesn't even compare to an actual meal.

Dad always told me "eat it before it eats you!"
I never seen anyone get attacked by an apple pie?

to me nothing beats some hotlinks over a fire for dinner with some cold sides and and beer... for breakfast leftover links or SPAM and eggs...I grew up camping with my grandpa and dad...most people thought it funny to see grandpa up before dawn flippin flap jacks on a coleman stove...just because your out in the woods dont mean you have to eat like your playing survivor the home game lol

I must be spoiled, but ever since I left the military I've decided no more eating shit regardless of where I am. Gourmet on the trail all the way baby! Omelets and bacon for breakfast!

@Rocco83, I'm with you! And probably for the same reason. I'll have to be extremely hungry before I actually crack open a MRE!

amen...my fiance always asks why I want to go camping for fun, well easy answer, I can chose what I want to eat, not sleeping in a hole and hoping my poncho dont blow away and I can leave when I want :)

same here....it has to be a desperate time to open an MRE...usually I take enough beannie weenies and vienna sausage to last me a good while :)

I've had those MREs after hurricanes, National Guard would hand them out. I truly feel sorry for our service members that have to have those.

Been forever since i've had beenie weenies on a camping stove...

I used to have no problems surviving a week eating nothing but granola and PB&J. Now I'm bringing a big 'old cooler full of goodies to munch on. Guess since I quit drinking I've got more cooler space for munchies anyway.

I used to be all about the beef stroganoff MREs. Not anymore though. I've got a couple cases sitting with all my survival supplies, but I pray it doesn't come to that.

After my comments above, I have to say that when my wife and I camp, we usually camp in style. Refrigerator on an inverter in the back of the XJ, camp kitchen set up with lots of lighting so the wife can see to cook and even a shower so we can get clean after a day of wheeling. We do leave the kitchen sink home however. But on the trail, in the middle of nowhere we break out the sandwich makings and cold drinks. But on a trail like the Rubicon, where if you want to make it to the end you will camp light, we leave all that stuff at home and fill the fridge with sandwich and burrito makings

That is where I luck out I guess. Not bringing along a second person gives me an extra 100+ pounds of food to bring along :P

If I am going to break down and eat an MRE, and trust me you can be so hungry that you actually look forward to it....I definitly prefer the chicken and noodles....but by far my all time favorite which they dont make anymore was the buffalo chicken, that was on point especially when you warm up the jalepeno cheese and mix it all together with some snack bread :) after years of country capitian chicken (still dont know what that was supposed to be :yack: ) it was a nice change of pace

This weekend I tried out a new recipe for a future camping trip. It's orange chicken with chipotle chilis in adobo sauce. I suppose it should be called citrus chicken so that it's not mistaken for some Chinese fast food copy cat. This is a Mexican dish and it is a little spicy. My busy said that it has him pooping napalm... But don't let that scare you off! It's delicious with some Spanish rice, cheese on a tortilla. Nom nom nom

My all time favorite thing to eat out on the trail is a big ol' plate of eggs and crispy hashbrowns with diced ham. :) We eat it morning noon and night on our camping and hunting trips, and it sticks in your gut to keep you full and energized!
