I finally found a jeep its a 1990 xj. This build will be slow going because of budget and the need to do it right the first time so please bear with me because I will have a ton of questions as I move forward.

So far this is what I have to work with:
A tired straight six with over 200,000 miles
An aisin aw 30-40le transmission
A 242 j transfer case
Dana 30 front
And a Chrysler 8.25 rear

Its all stock that I can see and white outside and tan on the inside (I hope I can find a darker color for the inside lol)

Sounds like a perfect start!

Thanks brasscatz, I spent all day yesterday tearing out the interior man that was a job lol

Does anyone know anything about the aisin aw 30-40le tranny? Or is it just the aw4?

As far as I know, the only Aisin automatic offered in the XJ was the AW4

Seems like a great start... I'm guessing you have the AW4, but there might be a tag on it that reads something similar to:

Aisin AW Co., LTD.
Model no. 30-40LE
Serial no. 90D R 61414

From what I've read online it's still an AW4, it is just the companies model or for that AW4 or something odd like that... but it is still an AW4..

Cool thanks man that is the same tag I seen. This is my first jeep so I'm still learning :-)

It's all good, we're all here to learn or pass one what we've learned in this great addiction that is Jeep!! You won't see any hating, :flameon:, or bashing here for anything you might think is "stupid" or anything like that.. so feel free to post up and ask your questions!! And we love pics, so feel to post up pics from stock on as you build it up!!

I took a lot of pics yesterday I will try and get them up tonight
I finished pulling the interior last night and the motor is next as soon as I collect the remaining tools that I might need so I can do it in one day so probably another month for that.

Are you pulling the motor for a rebuild or what??

Ya I'm going to do a complete rebuild I just hope the block and head is in good enough shape to reuse. I don't know if I'm going to keep it stock yet I guess it just depends on price and budget.

Sounds like a good plan.. I'm sure the engine will be good, might just need a hone on the cylinders to freshen up the cross hatch... never hurts to freshen up the engine if you have the ability to pull it and freshen it up...
