Wanted: Factory external spare tire carrier...

The kind that bolts to the passenger side 1/4 panel and swings out.

Prefer it to be located in the PNW so I can drive to pick it up as I am guessing shipping it would cost at least 1 arm and a partial leg. :rotfl2:

I've heard that those have a hard time with the weight of larger tires and wheels. Do you add more bracing, or did I just hear wrong?

You are correct in that they tend to droop, hang with bigger tires.

I plan to hang as small as possible spare and I will reinforce as needed.

I might just build a roof rack and store the spare up there? I can argue pro's and con's of either way.

I do know that there is NO room inside the back of the XJ since my kids and black lab, PLUS tools, cooler, spare parts, etc. will be inside the back of the XJ.

I had one that i ran until last week. I went into a ditch type thing and smacked my spare 33 and bent the carrier so bad that i couldnt shut it. I never had any problems with the weight thing. I also had my high lift mounted to it also.

I would vote for roof rack personally but then you have to think about the top heavy issue. Thing about the roof rack is you can pack all the fluffy stuff up there and then put the spare in the back.
