2001 fuel filter replacment

How does one change a fuel filter on a 2001 XJ Sport?
I have 83K and just want to get it checked or replaced
parts store says it doesn't list a replacement part

I am very eager to paint my valve cover:
is it best just to buy one used and paint it or new?
prep?

I would just pull the valve cover and have an automotive machine shop clean it. It will be ready to paint then

97+ fuel filter is located inside the fuel tank. Drop the tank, take out the pump/filter/float assembly, replace. They are about $300 at the dealer.
