My latest modification, a shovel mount. I made a mount that uses the stock spare tire mounting tab. The shovel is an old folding military shovel. Nothing fancy, but it might come in handy sometime.:D

Kind of a different way to go but very cool. I went with a more all inclusive rack but very functional for my needs :

Pardon the mess in the back, took this right after a outing and was unloading.

I would have to go back and measure it out again. Got tired of haveing stuff all over the outside. Used to have a rack on top but it got real tipsy so I moved it all inside. Can still fit three totes below and camping gear on the sides. works well and it is removeable (pins at the bottom)

what size spaire is that a 33 or what? and is it only in the back you do still have a back seat right? i like this idea if you don't mind i might just steal this design and make one for me.

I like the shovel mounts but I have mine on the roof rack because I didn't want to put a muddy shovel back inside my Jeep.

I've kicked around the idea of a roof rack, but I have measured, and the Jeep wouldn't fit under my garage door with one on it.

I've also liked the cargo area rack, but I would put the spare UNDER it, not on top. In case of an accident, I wouldn't want it to take my head off!:stars: I DO like your design though.

Ok let me answer some of the questions
1. No I can't see %&*&^ out the back window but I'm going forward so who cares
2. yes you can steal the design hopefully improve on it (spare upright and locked in on one side or the other?)
3. I like mud so its ok.
4.Spare underneath .... I tried that but I lost alot of tote room the tire is mounted to a YJ spare tire holder that is welded on to the rack.So the chance of it letting go is very small.
Well thats all for now !!!

That's a pretty good idea I have two military shovels one like yours and another that folds in 2 places. I just carry them under my rear seat though.

I like the shovel mount. I been wondering what to do with that space since my spare is to big to fit there. lol...

This is my current setup. (hope the embedded pic shows up)

xjjeepthing I noticed tiedowns in front of your shovel in the rear. Are those stock or did you add those?

Thanks

I added the tie downs. Had some little cheap plastic one the that held the cargo cover. I added those and replaced the floor ones with the same.
